At least seven Iraqis were killed and 13 more were wounded in light violence. In neighboring Iran, the highly influential Abdul-Aziz al-Hakim has died of cancer. He was the head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council and former leader of the Badr Brigades.
In Baghdad, five Iraqis were wounded during a car bombing in Wahran Square. On Nidhal St., four Iraqis were wounded during a second blast. Gunmen stormed a jewelry shop on Palestine St. and wounded two people who fought back; one gunman was captured.
In Mosul, a bomb killed two civilians and injured a policeman in the Faisaliya neighborhood. Gunmen targeted and killed a man on a bus and then killed a little girl as they made their escape.
Two bodies were found in Balad Ruz.
A bomb killed a farmer in Buhriz. A cleric connected to Ansar al-Sunna was arrested.
A Kirkuk policeman was wounded when a bomb planted on his car exploded.
No casualties were reported after a bomb exploded outside the Qayara home of an oil employee.
U.S. forces in Ramadi released 25 detainees who were cleared of wrongdoing.
Eight suspects were arrested in Basra province.
During a raid in Hilla, Iraqi forces recovered a Pablo Picasso painting, "The Naked Woman," apparently stolen from the Musuem of Kuwait during the 1990 invasion.
