At least 13 Iraqis were killed and another 29 were wounded in the latest round of violence. One incident involved clashes between Peshmerga and Iraqi army troops in a continuing dispute in Diyala province. One American soldier was killed in an vehicle accident.
Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Iraqi police clashed at a Kurdish party headquarters in Jalawla. One member from each side was killed. Tensions have been high for weeks in the predominantly Kurdish region, since the Iraqi central government sent army troops in to replace the Peshmerga. In a second story from Jalawla, the dead Kurd was a politician and no Iraqi policemen were killed; however, two policemen are being held under investigation.
Near Balad Ruz, two Iraqi army soldiers were killed and 14 more were wounded in a roadside bomb blast. Four gunmen were found dead a couple days after they were apparently trying to plant a roadside bomb; the bomb detonated prematurely.
In Garma, one policeman was killed and three more were wounded during an attack on a checkpoint.
Four policemen were wounded during a raid in Tuz Khormato that netted three suspects.
A Baaj council member and his wife were wounded when gunmen attacked their car.
Suspected al-Qaeda members wounded a man in Mafraq.
An Awakening Council (Sahwa) leader escaped injuries during an assassination attempt near Baquba in Sada village.
