At least 11 Iraqis were killed and 13 more were wounded in the latest attacks. A roadside bomb killed a U.S. soldier in Iskandariya. Also, followers of Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr peacefully continued their weekly protests against a proposed U.S-Iraqi security deal.
Turkey staged an air attack on Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) locations in the Qandil Mountains. One rebel was killed and two civilians were wounded. Turkey has staged several military incursions into northern Iraq as part of a greater operation against separatist rebels. The PKK wants an autonomous nation that will be made up of parts of Iraq, Turkey and other nations. Gunmen in Bhadeed al-Nasir killed one Iraqi soldier and wounded four others and a checkpoint.
In Baghdad, three children were killed and two more were wounded during a grenade attack in Rashad.
In Mosul, one gunman was killed and two bodyguards were wounded during an assassination attempt on a Sunni cleric.
Gunmen attacked an Awakening Council (Sahwa) checkpoint in Mussayab, where they killed one member and wounded a second.
In Samarra, gunmen killed two Sahwa members and an Iraqi policeman at a checkpoint there.
One policeman was killed and another was wounded when gunmen attacked a checkpoint in Anbar province.
A roadside bomb blast wounded a policeman in Kirkuk.
A total of 420 displaced families have left Missan province to return to their former homes.
Iraqi and U.S. forces detained 53 suspects in separate operations near Nasariya in al-Shatra.
The chief of police in Haditha was arrested on suspicion of involvement with armed groups.
A civilian was kidnapped in Baquba.
