Thursday: 1 GI, 1 Briton, 90 Iraqis Killed; 95 Iraqis Wounded

At least 90 Iraqis were killed or found dead today and another 95 Iraqis were wounded during violent incidents. An American MND-B soldier was killed and two more wounded yesterday in the capital. Also, one British soldier was killed and three others wounded when they came under a small arms attack today near Basra.

In Baghdad, 32 bodies were found dumped in several locations. Two bombs in Sadr City killed five and wounded 15 others. In the Abu Ghraib suburb, five people were killed and 12 injured during an attack on an army checkpoint. Residents of Bayaa repulsed an attack on a government building after the building’s guards ran out of ammunition. A car bombing in the Talbiya district left five dead and 15 wounded. In they Saidiya neighborhood mortars fell but no injuries were reported. Two Iraqi soldiers were wounded during clashes in Doura. Also, attacks on Christian targets continue.

In Mosul, a female journalist was killed at her home despite her having used pseudonyms to avoid assassination. Four bodies were found scattered around town.

Near the Syrian border at Rabea, a suicide bomber killed 10 people, while wounding at least 30 Iraqis and five British contractors.

A senior police officer’s convoy was attacked near Tikrit; two bodyguards were wounded. Four gunmen were injured during separate security operations.

Six people were wounded during a botched suicide truck attack at a police checkpoint near Ramadi; police fired at the driver and blew the truck up before it reached its destination.

Two bodies bearing gunshot and torture marks were found near Mahmuhdiya.

The bodies of five kidnap victims were found in farmland near Fallujah.

A government accountant and his three sons were found dead today in Basra. Last night, a bank manager was kidnapped.

Near Khalis, gunmen attacked a minibus carrying students belonging to the Obeid tribe; seven were kidnapped.

In the greater Hilla area, a child was wounded while several gunmen were being arrested. Also, the body of a judge was discovered in a small river.

A security forces building was blown-up last night near Baiji.

Iraqi soldiers reported killing eight suspects in unspecified locations.

Police killed three people and wounded six in Samarra. At least two more people were killed and three wounded.

A police officer was gunned down in front of his Diwaniyah home.
