99 Killed, 266 Wounded in Iraq Attacks

A fresh series of bombs struck in Baghdad and nearby suburbs. At least 99 people were killed and another 266 were wounded. Several of the blasts occurred within minutes of each other suggesting coordination among the bombers. Even the Interior Minister admitted that hundreds were wounded, even if he was short on the number of fatalities. Meanwhile, the Iraqi government in on high alert over impending strikes by the West against Syria and has tightened security in border areas.

In Baghdad, a bomb killed seven people and wounded 23 more in the Jisr Diyala neighborhood. Three separate bombs in Kadhimiya killed five people and wounded 30 more. In a Shabb bombing, nine people were killed and at least another nine were wounded. An I.E.D. blast at the Islamic Party H.Q in Yarmouk left three dead and 18 wounded. Six people were killed and at least four more were wounded in a bombing at an Adhamiya mosque. Two people were killed and 12 more were wounded in a blast in the Nisan neighborhood. A car bomb in Hurriya killed four people and wounded 20 more.

In Bayaa, one person was killed and 12 more were wounded. Five people were killed and 15 more were wounded in a blast in New Baghdad. In Saidiya, two people were killed and 14 more were wounded in a bombing. At a Dabbash area factory, a bomb killed three people and wounded eight more. One person was killed and 10 more were wounded in a bombing in Jamila. In Amil, a booby-trapped car killed four people and wounded 10 more when it blew up. Two people were killed and 11 more were wounded in Shula when a bomb exploded. A car bomb targeting a convoy carrying a Sons of Iraq official killed his bodyguard and wounding the official.

Near Baghdad, two bombs in the suburb of Sadr City killed seven people and wounded at least 24 others.

A suicide bomber in Mahmoudiya killed five people and wounded 15 more.

In Latifiya, gunmen killed six Sahwa members at a checkpoint. Seven family members were shot dead in a home invasion nearby.

A roadside bomb in Madaen killed four soldiers and wounded five more.

Six dumped bodies were discovered in Mushahda a couple days ago.

In Mosul, an air force pilot was gunned down. A bomb wounded two policemen. An assassination attempt against the governor failed. A bomb killed a Shabak man and wounded four family members, including three children. A bomb killed a civilian.

An armed group killed a captain and wounded 11 soldiers in Jurf al-Sakhar .

An army officer was killed and his wife was wounded during a home invasion in Falluja.

In Qayara, gunmen killed a man.

A policeman was shot dead in Kirkuk.

Two I.E.D.s wounded five people in Tarmiya.

In Baiji, a bomb wounded two policemen.

Security forces in Qaim killed a gunman.
