Monday: 26 Iraqis Killed, 52 Wounded

A significant number of attacks occurred across Iraq today. Almost all of them caused very few casualties though, keeping the figures deceptively low. At least 26 Iraqis were killed and 52 more were wounded. No Coalition casualties were reported. Also, Kurdish parliamentarian suggested that foreign governments contractually require the Iraqi government from using their weapons on the Kurdish population.

In Mosul, a car bomb killed one policeman and wounded four civilians in Bursa. A policeman’s body was found in central Mosul, and so was a policewoman’s. A car bomb wounded two policemen, while gunmen killed an Iraqi soldier in northern Mosul. Overnight, the bodies of a woman and two children were found in the rubble of a home that was demolished during a previously reported bombing. A car bomb in Baath wounded one policeman. Gunmen killed a policeman in Hadba’a. A bomb attached to his car wounded a local Awakening Council member. No casualties were reported during a drive-by shooting at the deputy governor’s house. Policemen killed a suicide bomber. Also, forty detainees were freed in Mosul for lack of evidence.

In Baghdad, eleven people were wounded by a bomb blast on Palestine Street. A second bomb on Palestine St. wounded two more people. A bomb killed one person and wounded two others in Karrada. Three women and a man were wounded during a drive-by shooting in New Baghdad. Near the Rasafa intersection, a roadside bomb wounded two policemen. In Allawi, bodyguards working for a migration minister randomly shot a group of civilians, killing a woman and injuring six people. Gunmen in western Baghdad threw a grenade and injured two people. Security forces detained 71 suspects and defused 46 bombs.

One dumped body was found in Sadr City.

An Awakening Council leader was kidnapped during a home invasion near Muqdadiyah in Mansouriyah. Three Iraqi soldiers were wounded by a roadside bomb during the ensuing search for the man. In what may be a separate incident, four policemen were arrested at the police station.

Two Iraqi soldiers were killed and four others were wounded during a roadside bomb blast near Baquba.

In Baiji, two policemen were killed and four more were wounded in a car bomb blast.

U.S. forces killed a medical doctor in Baquba.

In Bani Saad, gunmen killed a married couple and wounded their son.

A roadside bomb explosion killed two policemen and wounded another in Tikrit.

An oil company employee was kidnapped in Kirkuk. A roadside bomb killed a civilian and wounded a second person.

Gunmen in Suwayra killed a man.

A bombing yesterday in Qayara left one more wounded person than in earlier reports.

Iraqi forces killed one suspect and arrested 38 others across Iraq.

Coalition forces detained 15 suspects in Baghdad and Mosul.

Four men were arrested in separate locations in Wassit province.

Local authorities are taking measures to prevent the spread of cholera in Babil province, where another two deaths were reported.

Also, a car used in a bomb attack targeting Ahmed Chalabi, the head of the Iraqi National Congress, on Friday belonged to the state.
