Although Iraq was generally quiet today, several bombings rocked Baghdad. Overall, 23 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 20 were wounded so far. U.S. forces were involved in yet another controversial incident in which two first aid workers were killed in Mosul. In Turkey, Kurdish rebels killed 13 Turkish soldiers after one of their own was gunned down hours earlier.
In Baghdad, six dumped bodies were recovered. A car bomb killed five and wounded five in Baladiyat. In Doura, a roadside bomb targeting a U.S. patrol killed three civilians and wounded four more instead. Near an embassy building in Salihiya, a car bomb killed three and injured five others. A double bombing on Qanat St. injured two people. Two guards were wounded during an attack on the Baghdad governor’s motorcade; the wounded had not been tallied yet. Also, no casualties were reported during a joint U.S.-Iraqi raid in Doura.
Two bodies were found in the Euphrates River at Mussayab.
Two civilians were injured during an IED explosion in Khalis.
In al-Mujaddad, 10 explosive devices were defused.
Katyusha rockets rained on Polish forces at Camp Echo in Diwaniya, but no casualties were reported.
Police found a body in Babel province.
U.S. forces killed one suspect and detained nine more in northern and central Iraq; 17 were detained in Mussayab. The Iraqi army arrested another 45 suspects. Twelve suspects were arrested in Karbala.
Also, 13 Turkish soldiers were killed in what may have been a cross-border raid by Kurdish rebels. Hours earlier, Turkish troops had killed a PKK suspect.
