At least 107 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 82 more were wounded in the latest violence. However, Turkish forces have bombarded locations in Northern Iraq. There is no word on the number of casualties there. One Polish and five American soldiers were killed, while four more GIs were wounded in separate incidents. Also, U.S. forces said they captured a top al-Qaeda operative, Khaled Mashhadani, in northern Iraq.
An IED killed one American soldier and wounded four others yesterday in Baghdad; two gunmen were also killed. In a separate incident, also yesterday in Baghdad, two more GIs were killed during an IED explosion. Two American sailors were killed during security operations in Salah ad Din province. Also, on Polish soldier collapsed and died at a base in Diwaniya.
In Baghdad, at least 11 were killed and 14 wounded during a series of bombs in eastern neighborhoods. A sniper killed a policeman near the Interior Ministry. A woman was injured when a mortar shell landed in al-Zawra park. A mortar also landed in al-Baladiyat but caused no casualties. Four electrical maintenance workers were killed and four were injured when a truck bomb targeted their bus yesterday. Seven were wounded when mortars fell on a hospital in central Baghdad. Five people were killed in separate mortar attacks in southern Baghdad and Za’afaraniya. In Sada, mortars killed two and wounded five. Six people were killed and four wounded during a double bombing on al-Qanat street. Also, 15 bodies were found scattered among several neighborhoods.
Gunmen stormed yet another village in Diyala province. One person was killed and 15 were wounded in al-Safi.
A mortar shell landing on a home in Kut injured three sisters.
Near Jurf al-Sakhar, a roadside bomb killed two people and injured four others.
Two dumped bodies were found in Mahaweel.
A civilian was shot and killed outside his Kirkuk home. An ambulance carrying a pregnant woman was blasted by an IED. One policeman was killed and another was injured, but the woman and new baby were unhurt.
In Daqquq, a mutilated body was discovered.
Three suspects were killed and two were detained in Tarmiyah.
Gunmen attacked three oil tanker trucks near Latifiya. They killed the drivers.
Clashes continue in Nasariya.
Seven bus passengers were killed near Khalis.
In Fallujah, a sniper wounded a policeman at a checkpoint. The number of dead policemen in two separate events yesterday rose by four while four more policemen were wounded; three militamen were also killed.
In Qizilja village, gunmen killed two women on Tuesday.
Peshmerga fighters killed a Christian civilian near their patrol in the village of Qaraqosh.
Five militants were killed in separate incidents in Mosul yesterday.
