Monday: 158 Iraqis, 2 GIs Killed; 265 Iraqis Wounded

A major multiple bombing took place in Kirkuk where hundreds were killed or injured. Overall, at least 158 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 265 were wounded in the latest violence. Also, an MNC-I soldier died from non-battle-related causes in Diwaniyah, while another GI died of non-battled-related causes in Baghdad. And, the U.S. launched a new military operation south of the capital.

In Kirkuk, a suicide truck bombing left at least 85 people dead and 180 injured near the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan offices. Two people were wounded in a simultaneous car bomb at a shopping area. A third bomb killed a police officer and wounded four policemen in southern Kirkuk, while a fourth bomb was defused. Also, a policeman was shot dead.

In Baghdad, four policemen and a civilian were killed and 20 others were wounded during a suicide bombing near a checkpoint in al-Harthiya. In the Zayouna neighborhood, two young sisters were killed and five others family members were wounded after one was taken hostage and forced to load the vehicle with explosives. A sniper killed a streetsweeper and wounded three others in Bab al-Muadham. A pair of mortar rounds wounded two people in the Karrada district, while a nearby car bomb killed one person and wounded three more. A roadside bomb killed five Iraqi soldiers and injured another in a Bab al-Sham. Mortars in Abu Dsheer killed two and wounded six people. Four were killed and eight were wounded during a mortar attack in Husseiniyah. A U.S. helicopter fired upon and killed a man in the Sheikh Omar neighborhood. Also, 25 bodies were found dumped around the city.

An Iraqi army humvee hit and killed a guard working for Sunni politician Adnan al-Dulaimi. Another guard was injured. Shots were fired during the incident which came a day after a roadside bomb blasted al-Dulaimi’s car. Also, gunmen failed to storm the Palestine Meridien Hotel.

Five bodies were found in Samarra. They were shot in the head.

Three bodies, bearing gunshot wounds to the head, were found in Yusufiya.

During an attack in Fallujah, two policemen and a gunman were killed, while another policeman was wounded.

Also, 16 people were arrested trying to cross illegally into Turkey.

An explosion in Hawija wounded a policeman. A second policeman was also wounded.

Eleven people were injured during overnight mortar fire in Khalis.

Between Kirkuk and Arbil, U.S. troops fired upon an approaching car and injured a judge within it.

Gunmen destroyed several homes in Garma, hoping to reduce the number of people volunteering to be policemen.

Police in Basra found three dead bodies. Also, a handcuffed man was found wandering the desert. Also, a policeman was wounded.

U.S. forces killed two gunmen.

In Altun Kupri, gunmen killed a policeman.

Eight bodies were found in Mosul. Also, four policemen and five civilians were wounded in separate incidents.

Two women were wounded in Muqdadiyah when their minibus was attacked.

Clashes broke out in Jurf al-Sakhar where three gunmen were wounded.

In Hilla, a gunman threw a grenade at a crowd of people and wounded several of them.
