Today U.S. General David Petraus spoke on the situation in Iraq and called it "the most complex and challenging I have ever seen." Meanwhile at least 90 Iraqis were reported killed or found dead and another 158 Iraqis were wounded in violent attacks that including a triple bombing in Mosul. No foreign casualties were reported.
In Baghdad, 27 bodies were found scattered in separate locations. A bomb near Baghdad University near Jadriya killed eight and wounded 19 others. One person was killed and three others wounded during two explosions in Baiyaa. In Doura mortars killed two people and injured 12 others. Mortars in Harthiya killed one and injured two, while another mortar attack killed another person and wounded two more in a northwestern neighborhood. Mortars in Sab al-Boor killed one and injured two more. A roadside bomb near the Shorja market killed four and wounded nine. Two IEDs in Saidiyah injured a civilian and a policeman. A civilian in al-Qadisiyah was injured during a random shooting.
Also, U.S. forces reported killing three suspects during security operations in Baghdad. Residents claim the suspects included a pregnant woman and a 70-year-old man; seven others were wounded. Iraqi forces killed a separate suspect. An American air strike killed two and injured two in Sadr City late yesterday. No casualties were reported after a roadside bomb exploded near a U.S. convoy.
Three decapitated bodies were found south of Baghdad.
Three separate bombings took place in Mosul. At least three people were killed and 59 wounded. A suicide bomber and two truck bombs targeted Kurdish organizations.
In Khalis, a suicide car bomber attacked an Iraqi army checkpoint, killing 10 soldiers and wounding 15 others, including civilians. Gunmen killed an army officer and two citizens, and they also wounded others. Also, four civilians were wounded during clashes.
Five people were wounded in Kirkuk when someone tossed a hand grenade into a cafe.
The general-secretary of the Shi’ite Tharallah Islamic Party, Yousif al-Moussawi, was not hurt in a grenade attack on his home in Basra, but one of his guards was seriously wounded.
In Fallujah, gunmen killed a member of the Sunni Iraqi Islamic Party. Two members of the same family and a gunman were killed. Two bodies were also found.
A policeman was wounded in Madaen when gunmen attacked his patrol.
At a Jibela secondary school, a hidden bomb killed one student and wounded six others.
