Sunni Morale Bottoms as 69 Are Killed in Iraq

Sunni leaders say they will continue to fight against the Islamic State militants, as they have no choice but to do it, but they will not fight for the Iraqi government. The fall of Ramadi has underscored a lack of trust and support from Baghdad. The Sunnis also mistrust Baghdad for indiscriminate bombing of Sunni areas. Some analysts believe a political solution is necessary before the situation can be rescued.

Militants overran Iraqi government lines at Husaybah.

At least 69 were killed and 44 were wounded:

Gunmen killed two civilians in Zaghniya village.

In Baghdad, three security personnel were wounded during a raid that left a militant dead.

Airstrikes in Qaim left 24 militants dead and 19 wounded.

Fifteen militants were killed during an airstrike in Baiji. Security forces killed a militant accused of taking part in the Speicher Massacre last summer.

Airstrikes killed 11 militants and wounded 22 more in Hawija.

Nine militants were killed in Ramadi.

In Tal Afar, an airstrike left three militants dead.

Three militant leaders were killed in Garma.
