Pentagon officials today admitted working on a 16-month exit plan for U.S. troops in Iraq; however, it remains just one of several possible scenarios. In Iraq, violence took the lives of nine Iraqis and wounded another six on a mostly quiet day. No Coalition deaths were reported.
In Baghdad, a roadside bomb targeting a Higher Education Ministry injured two civilians instead. A bomb on Nidhal St. killed a security guard and injured three people. A roadside bomb targeting a U.S. convoy killed an Iraqi guard instead.
In Mosul, a man was killed during a drive-by shooting yesterday. A policeman was shot dead. One body bearing gunshot wounds was found. A dumped body was found in a cemetery. A roadside bomb injured an Iraqi soldier. A member of Ninewa provincial council was freed after spending a year behind bars; whether he was innocent of all charges is unclear. Also, a number of weapons were discovered in what appears to be a bomb-making factory.
Ammunition was found in Karbala.
Eleven suspects were detained in Kirkuk. Three bodies were discovered.
A U.S. Humvee was destroyed in an I.E.D. attack, but no casualties were as yet reported.
Seven suspects were arrested across Iraq.
