Eid observances continue in Iraq so reports of violence remain low. Only four injuries were reported throughout the country. No Coalition deaths were reported. Meanwhile, the U.S. military refuses to honor an Iraqi court order to release a journalist from their custody.
Ibrahim Jassam Mohammed is an Iraqi journalist in U.S. custody. He was picked up in September and has been held without charges since. An Iraqi court ordered the U.S. to release the journalist as there is no evidence against him, but U.S. forces are refusing to do so. The U.S. military claims the right to hold people indefinitely and without charges. The U.S.-Iraqi security pact that will go into effect at the end of the year changes that, but how long Mohammed will have to wait for release after that is still up in the air.
Two bodies were discovered in Murata al-Kabir.
In Baghdad, mortar fire in Mashtal left one wounded. Another person was wounded during a controlled explosion in Qahira.
In Mosul, a roadside bomb wounded a woman. Gunmen threw a hand grenade at a policeman, wounding him.
A wanted man was detained in Kut.
U.S. forces captured 14 al-Qaeda suspects.
Diwaniya police confiscated 50 improvised explosive devices.
The head of the provincial council in Diyala asked that elections be delayed six months because of security concerns.
Thirty suspects were arrested in connection with a fatal bombing in Fallujah last week.
Police seized a truck carrying "carginogenic" wheat in Baquba. It was among 196 lorries believed to be carrying 35 tons of wheat into Iraq.
