At least six Iraqis were killed and eight more were wounded in the latest attacks. An unknown number were wounded during a shooting incident in Samarra as well. Also, a final autopsy on a Marine who died last year has ruled that he died from wounds he received in 2005 during a combat incident in Anbar province. Meanwhile, Sadrists are coming out against a proposed U.S.-Iraqi security agreement.
About two thousand Sadrists marched in Kufa against a proposed U.S.-Iraqi security agreement. Hundreds more demonstrated in Kut over U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s visit yesterday; they also came out against the proposed agreement. The agreement sets a loose exit timetable for most troops; however, it does not give a concrete date for all troops. Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr believes the agreement will turn Iraq into a U.S. colony.
Security forces said that Adnan al-Dulaimi’s son was arrested for planting a bomb. Dulaimi himself has said that his son is apolitical. Another son was arrested last year. Dulaimi is a Sunni parliamentarian and the head of the Accordance Front. The arrests may be politically motivated as Dulaimi’s bloc only recently ended their boycott of the central government. Also, Iraq’s former culture minister has been sentenced in absentia to death for the murder of another politician’s sons.
In Sadr City, Iraqi forces raided an Sadrist office. One guard was killed, and another was arrested. Another man was also killed during the raid.
Three people were killed on a road between Kirkuk and Hawija when an unidentified helicopter fired upon them.
A roadside bomb in Buhriz killed one Iraqi soldier and wounded eight others.
In Baghdad, a mortar round fell in the Green Zone, but no casualties were reported. An adhesive bomb was discovered and defused safely in Amil.
An Awakening Council (Sahwa) member in Samarra wounded a number of fellow members when he opened fire on them for unknown reasons.
A vehicle ban has been imposed on Tal Afar.
Three policemen were arrested in Nasariya under suspicion of planning to assassinate the police chief.
A suspect was captured in Amara.
U.S. forces rounded-up sixteen suspects in northern and central Iraq.
