Fighting Continues in Ramadi; 138 Killed across Iraq

At least 138 were killed and 54 were wounded.

Heavy casualties were reported on Sunday in Ramadi, where a number of buildings were demolished. Just west of the city, the Anbar Operations Command base was captured; at least five soldiers were killed and 12 were wounded. Four bombings left 10 policemen dead and 15 wounded in the Maalab district, where two dozen policemen are missing. Three suicide bombers were killed in a northern district.

The Anbar provincial council apparently voted to allow Shi’ite militiamen into the area to fight against the Islamic State militants. The Pentagon promised help in recovering the city “later” if it should fall, seemingly oblivious to the actual conditions in the city. Also, fleeing forces left a considerable amount of weaponry for the militants to seize for themselves.

Near the Baiji Refinery, a suicide bomber killed eight federal policemen.

Five civilians were killed and nine were wounded during strikes in Falluja. Security forces killed 29 militants.

In Shura, near Mosul, three civilians were buried alive after being forced to dig their own graves.

A roadside bomb wounded two civilians in Mualimeen.

Near Samarra, 32 militants were killed.

Twenty militants were killed in the Hamrin Mountains.

Peshmerga artillery fire left 13 militants dead near Sinjar.

In Samarra, 12 militants were killed during a foiled chlorine attack.

A rocket killed nine militants and wounded 16 more in Hammam al-Alil.

Seven snipers were killed in Saniya.

A sniper was killed at a cement plant near Garma.
