As the faithful were observing the Eid, suicide bombers struck at a pair of Sistani-led mosques in Baghdad. Overall, at least 39 Iraqis were killed and 65 more were wounded in attacks across the country. No Coalition deaths were reported, but four U.S. soldiers were injured during a bombing in Baghdad. Also, a U.S. soldier was sentenced to eight months in prison after pleading guilty on charges of being an accessory to the murder of four Iraqi detainees.
In Baghdad, a suicide car bomber killed 14 people and wounded 28 others at a mosque in Zaafaraniyah. In Jadida, a teenager blew himself up along with 12 others at a mosque checkpoint; another 30 were wounded there. A third suicide bomber struck at a U.S. convoy in Amiriya, injuring four Americans and two Iraqis. No casualties were reported after a mortar round fell inside the Green Zone. An unidentified body was found on Nidhal Street. Also, two suspects were detained.
Gunmen killed six people and wounded three others when they attacked a minibus in Wajihiya. The casualties were mostly women and children.
Two were killed and a third person was wounded during a tribal clash in al-Baitra.
In Mosul, a Sunni Imam was wounded during a small arms attack.
In Halabja, a body was found.
Five suspects were detained in Basra.
About 10,000 Christians in Dahuk demonstrated for self-rule and representation in local councils.
Also, corruption charges continue to hamper the Red Crescent’s distribution of aid to the needy.
