Sunday: 1 US Soldier, 21 Iraqis Killed; 113 Iraqis Wounded

A number of bombings have rocked Iraq at the start of this work week. Baghdad suffered a number of small explosions, while larger bombings took place north of the capital. A complex attack in Tarmiyah left one American soldier dead as well. Overall, at least 21 Iraqis were killed and another 113 were wounded across Iraq. Meanwhile, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari reiterated government demands that a clear withdrawal timeline be set before Iraq signs a security agreement allowing American troops to remain. Negotiators are confident the pact will be signed soon.

One American soldier was killed two others were wounded in a complex attack in Tarmiyah. Four Iraqis were also killed and 21 more were wounded. A roadside bombing first attracted the U.S. patrol. That was followed by small arms gunfire and a suicide vest attack.

Using an explosives-laden minibus, a suicide bomber attacked a government center in Khanaqin. At least three people were killed and about 25 more were wounded. The bombing took place near a Kurdish police station and the mayor’s office.

A car bomb killed two people and wounded 25 in Baquba.

In Baghdad, a number of bombings have left dozens killed or wounded and reporters scrambling to get accurate figures. A roadside bomb killed three people and wounded ten more in Bab al-Sharji. Another bomb, this one in Kamaliya, killed four people and injured 11 others. In Amil, a bomb targeting a security convoy injured four people. Two soldiers and four civilians were injured during a bombing in Zayouna. A tossed hand grenade wounded three people in Camp Sara. A sixth explosion injured at least two civilians near the al-Sank market downtown. Also, three bodies were found.

A car bomb in Madaen killed an Iraqi soldier and wounded five more.

Gunmen killed a policeman in Saidiya.

In Suleiman Bek, a roadside bomb wounded a member of an Awakening Council.

Eight death sentences were upheld in Wassit province. The condemned were found guilty of kidnapping and murder.

Four suspects were detained in Hawija.

In Buhriz, security forces arrested four suspects.

In Diyala province, numerous weapons and toxic substances were seized from a chicken farm.
