A large supply of weapons is being transferred from the United State to Iraq, ahead of a possible operation in Mosul. At least 197 were killed and 156 more were wounded.

New Zealand is sending as many as 143 security personnel to train Iraq. As with other Coalition troops, the soldiers will not be involved in combat missions. At least 68 were killed and 10 others were wounded.

A physical trench cut into the earth south of Baghdad is, ostensibly, to prevent Islamic State militants from reaching the holy city of Karbala. However, Sunni leaders believe the trench serves another purpose, which is to prevent the former Sunni residents from returning to the fertile farmland they called home before the militants invaded Iraq.

Iraq’s ambassador to the U.N., Mohamed al-Hakim, called for an investigation into reports that the Islamic State militants are harvesting organs. At least 157 were killed and 24 were wounded across Iraq.

With the number of forces in the Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias possibly being twice that of Iraq’s army, the U.S. government faces the challenge that it may win the war against the Islamic State militants but still lose Iraq to Iran. The militias may also be destroying any hope of future Iraq unity.
