Sunday: 58 Iraqis Killed, 98 Wounded

Updated at 6:49 p.m. EDT, June 20, 2010 At least 58 Iraqis were killed and 98 more were wounded mostly in Baghdad and Tikrit. Turkish troops also struck in northern Iraq where civilians were among the casualties. Meanwhile, an American-born al-Qaeda spokesman repeated the group’s demands, which include the withdrawal of troops from Iraq.

Sunday: 36 Iraqis Killed, 64 Wounded

Updated at 7:50 p.m, EDT, June 13, 2010 At least 36 Iraqis were killed and 64 more were wounded in new violence. The lion’s share of the casualties came from a coordinated attack against a bank in Baghdad, just a day before the new parliament is to meet. Meanwhile, a British security contractor is appealing a determination that he is mentally able to stand trial in Iraq in the fatal shooting of two colleagues in Baghdad last summer.

Monday: 21 Iraqis Killed, 72 Wounded

Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, says al-Qaeda’s power base in Iraq has been squeezed by a lack of funds and a power vacuum at the top. Despite al-Qaeda weakening, attacks continue to vex Iraq. At least 21 Iraqis were killed and 72 more were wounded in new violence. Also, Iraq lodged complaints with Iran over reports that Iranian troops have crossed the border and started to erect a new fort as part of their operations against Kurdish rebels.

Friday, 1 Iraqi Killed, 7 Wounded

At least one Iraqi was killed and seven more were wounded in light, prayer day violence. Meanwhile, Paul Bremer, the diplomat who governed Iraq’s Coalition Provisional Authority after the fall of the Saddam Hussein regime said the Iraq War was poorly planned. Also, the U.S. handed over a base to their Iraqi counterparts near Baghdad.

Saturday: 2 US Soldiers, 3 Iraqis, 4 PKK Killed; 9 Iraqis Wounded

At least three Iraqis were killed and nine more were wounded in light violence just a day after a significant bombing in Khalis. Also, two U.S. soldiers were killed in separate location in northern Iraq. Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) said that four rebels were killed and five more were wounded during Turkish air strikes on northern Iraq.
