Monday: 1 Iraqi Killed, 4 Wounded

At least one Iraqi was killed and four more were wounded in light violence. Meanwhile, Iraqis by the thousands came out in Baghdad to protest poor services and government corruption. The demonstration came only a day after the first reported self-immolation in the country and after several protests in recent weeks. In response, the Iraqi government has canceled a purchase of F-16 fighter jets and is diverting that money to improving food rations.

Sunday: 3 Iraqis Killed, 12 Wounded

Parliament filled several important posts today but failed to vote on the defense, interior and national security portfolios. Meanwhile, at least three Iraqis were killed and 12 more were wounded in new violence. In one incident, Iraq’s first reported self-immolation protest occurred, significantly ratcheting up demonstrations that have taken place in recent days.

Saturday: 50 Iraqis Killed, 83 Wounded

Updated at 1:32 p.m. EST, Feb. 13, 2011 At least 50 Iraqis were killed and 83 more were wounded in news attacks. The lion’s share of casualties occurred in Samarra where Shi’ite pilgrims are gathering to observe the anniversary of the death of Hasan al-Askari.

Wednesday: 14 Iraqis Killed, 120 Wounded

A significant attack in Kirkuk may have shook the country today and reminded the world of Iraq’s continuing violence, but it is the amount of chronic corruption within government that perhaps has even more Iraqis rattled. At least 14 Iraqis were killed in attacks across the country and 121 more were wounded.

Sunday: 3 Iraqis Wounded

Sunday was fairly peaceful as only three people were reported injured in light violence. Clashes also took place during a demonstration in Basra, but no casualties were reported in them.
