Thursday: 1 US Soldier, 4 Iraqis Killed; 15 Iraqis Wounded

As U.S. soldiers continue to die in Iraq, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates traveled to Iraq to meet with senior government officials and discuss the possibility of extending troop presence beyond the agreed deadline on Dec. 31. Besides the one U.S. soldier who died in a non-combat incident in Mosul on Tuesday, at least four Iraqis were also killed and 15 more were wounded. So far this month, another four U.S. soldiers have died.

Tuesday: 7 Iraqis Killed, 16 Wounded

At least seven Iraqis were killed and 16 others were wounded on a fairly quiet day. Meanwhile, the environment ministry said Iraq is home to a quarter of Iraq’s landmines, many of them dating to the 1960s. Karbala is just one area that is littered with them.

Friday: 5 Iraqis Killed, 59 Wounded

At least five Iraqis were killed and nine were wounded in new attacks, while another 50 were injured during demonstrations in Iraqi Kurdistan.

About 50 people were injured during protests in Suleimaniya. A large number of the injured belonged to security forces. Demonstrations calling for reform within the Kurdish Autonomous government have occurred there for about six weeks.

A suicide bomber killed three soldiers and wounded seven others, including three civilians, in Falluja.

In Mosul, a hand grenade attack left two wounded. A man was shot to death.

Kurdish security forces have been accused of targeting members of an opposition party during clashes in Kalar.

In Baghdad, demonstration gathered in Tahrir Square.

A bomb targeted a U.S. patrol near Amara but left no casualties.

Wednesday: 7 Iraqis Killed, 22 Wounded

With the country recovering from yesterday’s deadly bombing and hostage situation in Tikrit, Iraqis were faced with more violence but a significantly lower tally of casualties. At least seven Iraqis were killed and 22 others were wounded in new attacks.

Tuesday: 63 Iraqis Killed, 108 Wounded

Updated at 9:12 p.m. EDT, Mar. 29, 2011 At least 63 Iraqis were killed and 108 were wounded today. The worst attack targeted the Salah ad Din provincial council and left several lawmakers dead. U.S. forces were called in to assist Iraqi security forces there. Also, Arab residents in Ninewa province are outraged the province has a new Kurdish governor and Turkmen council chief.
