A significant double bombing at a pet market hearkened back to the height of sectarian violence. Overall, at least 22 Iraqis were killed and 161 more were wounded across the country. Also, one Iranian pilgrim was killed and nine more were wounded in attacks in Samarra.

Speaker Osama al-Nujaifi re-iterated concerns that Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has not shared power in keeping with a 2010 agreement that allowed the premier to stay in office a second term. He called on Maliki to voluntarily step down but also warned the premier that lawmakers are prepared to continue their attempts to oust the premier by force. Meanwhile, at least three Iraqis were killed and four more were wounded in light violence.

At least 10 Iraqis were killed and 22 more were wounded in new violence, but police in the northern district of Daquq reported that 68 people have been killed there in the last three months. Meanwhile, Turkey conducted more air strikes on rebel targets in Iraq. Also, militants targeted the electrical infrastructure.

The terrorism trial against Tareq al-Hashemi resumed today, with Hashemi’s lawyers returning in their official capacity but without Hashemi himself. Meanwhile, at least 18 Iraqis were killed and 12 more were wounded.

Today’s worst attack took place at a funeral where mourners had gathered to pay respect to a Shi’ite sheikh. Overall, at least 36 Iraqis were killed and 82 more were wounded.

As Shi’ite pilgrims return home, violence against them has tapered, but attacks against other targets continued. At least 19 Iraqis were killed and 53 more were wounded in attack that focused on west and northern Iraq.

As anticipated, insurgents took advantage of the Shi’ite holiday to strike. Across Iraq, at least 51 people were killed and 154 more were wounded. Casualty figures given by various sources following such large-scale attacks usually conflict, and today is no exception.

At least 12 Iraqis were killed and nine more were wounded in relatively light violence. Although Shi’ite pilgrims were targeted in recent days, only three suffered any injuries today. Many are on their way home now. The most horrific attack just south of Baghdad, where gunmen slaughtered an entire family.

A day after a series of attacks left over 100 Iraqis killed, security was tightened around Shi’ite pilgrims and related targets. Still, at least 14 people were killed and 21 more were wounded, but none of the attacks was reported as being directed at the pilgrims.

Across Iraq, a series of coordinated attacks shattered the relative peace seen in recent days. Conflicting figures are not unusual after so many significant bombings, but about 107 Iraqis were killed and 384 more were wounded
