A surge in violence occurred today, leaving at least 13 dead and 55 wounded. Once again Shi’ite pilgrims were targeted in Baghdad, but many attacks also occurred outside the capital. Many of those victims were security personnel.

Qadir Aziz, general secretary of the Kurdistan Future Party, said that he doubts a no-confidence vote will take place because of disunity and lack of support from the U.S. Meanwhile, at least 11 Iraqis were killed and 7 more were wounded in the latest violence. Also, a series of bomb and mortar attacks against oil pipelines failed to stop the flow.

Iraq announced the execution of a high-profile Saddam Hussein aide today. Another 11 Iraqis were killed in other violence. At least six were also wounded. Meanwhile, a group lawmakers defected from a coalition seeking the removal of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki from office.
