Shi’ite Muslims marked Shabaniya, the anniversary of the birth of Imam Mehdi, today, making Shi’ite neighborhoods in Baghdad obvious targets. Overall, at least 47 people were killed today, and another 81 were wounded.

According to a Ba’ath Party statement, one of Saddam Hussein’s executioners was among the 43 latest reported casualties.

At least 55 people were killed and 69 more were wounded across the country. Two Syrian militants were killed during a border clash with Iraqi security forces. Most of the attacks against civilians and local police occurred north of Baghdad, while clashes that killed gunmen and military forces took place to the east and west.

At least 14 Iraqis were killed and 34 more were wounded in the lastest violence.

Tightened security in Nineva and Anbar provinces was successful in preventing any major attacks against voters today. However, some violence did occur. At least 12 Iraqis were killed in it, and another 16 were wounded. Only two provinces participated in polling. Elections in 12 other provinces took place in April.

Ahead of tomorrow’s provincial elections, security forces have taken various methods to prevent violence. Still, at least 21 people were killed and 47 more were wounded.

The bombings returned to Baghdad today, where a Shi’ite mosque took the brunt of the attacks.

At least 23 Iraqis were killed and 79 more were wounded in today’s attacks.

A surge in attacks that began last month resumed after several days of relatively light violence. Shi’ites were targeted in today’s hostilities. Because several of the bombings occurred in southern cities unaccustomed to daily or even weekly attacks, the violence was likely coordinated. Overall, at least 43 Iraqis were killed and 149 more were wounded.

Fresh attacks left 21 Iraqis dead and 12 wounded. Two Iranians were also killed, and 40 more were wounded.
