41 Killed Across Iraq

At least 41 people were killed and 73 more were wounded in new violence. The largest number of casualties occurred just south of Baghdad, where dozens of insurgents were killed or wounded during a security operation. Meanwhile, a failed assassination attempt against parliament’s speaker took place in Mosul.

Fifteen gunmen were killed and 35 more were wounded during operations in Iskandariya.

A roadside bomb targeting a bus carrying farm workers in Hafriya left eight dead and seven wounded.

Following the discovery of three dumped bodies in a swamp near Amiriyat al-Falluja earlier this week, Iraqi forces conducted a operation in the area. Clashes erupted, leaving two policemen and four gunmen dead. Four policemen and two gunmen were wounded.

Gunmen killed four policemen and wounded six others at a Baiji checkpoint.

In Mosul, two policemen were killed and seven more were wounded when a bomb, possibly targeting Iraqi Speaker Osama Nujaifi’s convoy, blew up near the airport. Nujaifi was not traveling with his convoy at the time. A separate I.E.D. attack wounded three federal policemen.

A police major was killed and four policemen were wounded in a blast in Jurf al-Sakhar where major clashes have taken place this week.

In Falluja, gunmen killed a former police officer. A dumped body was found.

A body bearing gunshot wounded was discovered in Ramadi.

In Baghdad, gunmen killed the owner of a auto repair shop.

A policeman’s body was found dumped in Kut.

Gunmen wounded three policemen on a highway near Samarra.

In Kirkuk, gunmen wounded two employees of the gas company.

Clashes broke out in Tuz Khormato.
