Iraq Mosque Mayhem Pushes Toll to 57 Killed, 106 Wounded

A Wajihiya mosque was the scene of a significant attack that left over 100 people dead or injured today. Wajihiya itself, which is in restive Diyala province between Baquba and Muqdadiya, has witnessed a surge in violence this week, but no group has taken credit for it yet. Meanwhile, random attacks continued across the country. Overall, at least 57 people were killed and 106 more were wounded in them.

At least 32 people were killed at a mosque in the town of Wajihiya, which has seen a dramatic uptick in violence this week. A bomb hidden in an air conditioner exploded as the imam was delivering a sermon; some witnesses said a suicide bomber was also involved in the attack. About 69 more were wounded. A separate roadside bomb killed three young men yesterday.

In Baghdad, gunmen stormed an Ur neighborhood home where they killed three women. A shop owner was gunned down in Nahrawan. Two people were killed and five more were wounded during a bombing at a checkpoint south of Baghdad. A bomb near a Ghazaliya market killed one civilian and wounded another.

Mortars in Mahlabiya killed two women and wounded two more.

A sticky bomb killed a married couple, both farmers, as they were driving to work in Dujail.

A policeman was killed and five worshippers were wounded as he blocked a suicide bomber from entering a Jbela mosque.

In Shirqat, two soldiers were killed and another was wounded when an I.E.D. blew up.

Gunmen in Balad shot dead a farmer. When police arrived at the scene, a bomb exploded and wounded four people.

A bomb in a shop in Muqdadiya killed one person and wounded two more when it exploded.

A woman was shot dead in Kirkuk.

In Iskandariya last night, another policeman was killed while blocking a suicide bomber.

Eleven young men were wounded at a Samarra soccer field during a mortar attack.

In Garma, a woman and her two daughters were wounded during a home invasion.

A roadside bomb wounded one soldier in Buhriz.

In Falluja, gunmen on a motorcycle wounded a policeman and a civilian.

A suicide bomber in Hammam al-Alil wounded an official from the dept of Home Affairs.
