Iraq Reveals War Casualty Count as 20 More Iraqis Are Killed

Spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh today gave the official government casualty figures for most of the last seven years. He said that 69,263 people were killed and 239,133 were wounded in Iraq between April 5, 2004 and December 31, 2011. That includes all violence, including sectarian attacks and military operations. The bloodshed did not stop at the end of last year though. At least 20 Iraqis were killed today and 41 more were wounded.

In Baghdad, a car bomb killed eight people, including children, and wounded 22 more.

Four security personnel were killed during a blast at a Sahwa checkpoint in Suleiman Bag. Four others were wounded, including civilians.

In Mosul, a bombing left three policemen dead and two more wounded. A captain was wounded in a separate blast. One soldier was killed and another was wounded in another bomb explosion. Another bomb killed a policeman and wounded three others.

A shepherd was killed and two brothers were wounded when a landmine exploded near Kirkuk.

Gunmen killed a Sahwa member and wounded two others at a checkpoint near Baquba.

In al-Islah al-Zirae, a bomb killed one soldier and wounded another.

Three people were wounded during an explosion in Baaj.
