At least 125 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 78 more were wounded in the latest violence. No foreign military deaths were announced.
In Baghdad, 14 unidentified bodies were found dumped in various neighborhoods; three more bodies were also found. Twelve people were killed and over 40 were wounded during a mortar attack in al-Obeidi; witnesses say that U.S. forces and the Mahdi Army clashed in the same area. On al-Jamhouriya Street, a motorcycle bomb left one dead and six wounded. A bomb near the Mishin complex killed one and wounded five others. No casualties were reported during a mortar attack in the Green Zone. Also, gunmen abducted 15 people off a minibus in the Bab al-Muadham neighborhood.
The Sinjar area came under attack again, just several days after an attack that left up to 500 Yezidi tribespeople dead. Mortars in al-Qairawan killed one policemen and wounded two more. Five policemen were wounded during an ambush on the highway near al-Biaaj.
A roadside bomb wounded two people in Kirkuk. A body was found. A twelve-year-old boy was kidnapped from his home. A coordinated bomb attack left three wounded policemen. Also, police reported finding two corpse bombs.
In Khalis, 1500 people including local sheikhs and dignitaries gathered to launch a counteroffensive against militants who have plagued the area. Five people were killed early on in the fighting.
Five bodies were found in a grave in Basra as people were excavating the location in order to build a home. It is believe the grave dates from a 1991 uprising.
In Sulaimaniyah, the head of the provincial council resigned amid security concerns and lack of power.
A leader of the Islamic State in Iraq and seven aides were arrested in Ninewah.
Eight people were injured during a mortar attack in Duluiyah.
Also, a faction belonging to the PKK (Kurdish Workers Party) has claimed responsibility for bringing down an Iranian helicopter that killed five and wounded six. They also say they forced another helicopter down into a hard landing. And, clashes broke out between PKK elements and Iranian forces near the international border.
