At least 13 Iraqis were killed and 26 more were wounded in the latest round of violence. Meanwhile, U.S. authorities transferred 55 high-level detainees, including Tariq Aziz, to their Iraqi counterparts. Also, Turkey is considering building a new army that will handle their war against PKK rebels.

A day after one of the deadliest attacks of the year took place in Baghdad, there was a lull in new violence. Overall, at least 11 Iraqis were killed and 11 more were wounded across the country. Also, a U.S. soldier was killed in a non-combat incident in Baghdad.

A relative quiet day in Iraq hid the grim reality that 5,000 U.S. servicemembers have died in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The 5,000th death may have been one of two U.S. soldiers who died in Iraq. Four Iraqis were wounded in a pair of minor bombings in Mosul and Mussayab.
