At least five Iraqis were killed and 20 more were wounded in the latest violence. If the injured were taken to one of the country’s hospitals, they might have found a deadly lack of training and supplies. Meanwhile, the United States continues to hope that Iraq will soon ask for the continued presence of troops.
The dramatic takeover of a Baghdad prison today left nearly three dozen dead or injured, including an al-Qaeda “emir” or “wali,” before an assault force was able to secure the facility. At least 29 Iraqis were killed and 23 more were wounded at the prison and in other violence across the country.

A significant blast targeting police just south of Baghdad left scores dead or wounded. At least 40 Iraqis were killed and 100 more were wounded in this and other attacks across the country. New developments concerning the Arab League summit meeting and the P.M.O.I. arose as well.

At least 24 Iraqis were killed and 53 more were wounded. Targeted assassination continued in Baghdad and elsewhere, but a large blast occurred in the capital as well. Meanwhile, U.S. House Speaker John Boehner said a recent meeting with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki left him believing that a small force of U.S. troops needs to remain after 2011.
