Another War in the Works
Does anyone remember all the lies that they were told by then-president Bush and the "mainstream media" about the grave threat to America from weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? These lies were repeated endlessly in the print and TV media despite the reports from the weapons inspectors, who had been sent to Iraq, that no such weapons existed.
The weapons inspectors did an honest job in Iraq and told the truth, but the mainstream media did not emphasize their findings. Instead, the media served as a Ministry of Propaganda, beating the war drums for the U.S. government.
Now the whole process is repeating itself. This time the target is Iran.
As there is no real case against Iran, Obama took a script from Bush’s playbook and fabricated one.
First the facts: As a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran’s nuclear facilities are open to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which carefully monitors Iran’s nuclear energy program to make certain that no material is diverted to nuclear weapons.
The IAEA has monitored Iran’s nuclear energy program and has announced repeatedly that it has found no diversion of nuclear material to a weapons program. All 16 U.S. intelligence agencies have affirmed and reaffirmed that Iran abandoned interest in nuclear weapons years ago.
In keeping with the safeguards agreement that the IAEA be informed before an enrichment facility comes online, Iran informed the IAEA on Sept. 21 that it had a new nuclear facility under construction. By informing the IAEA, Iran fulfilled its obligations under the safeguards agreement. The IAEA will inspect the facility and monitor the nuclear material produced to make sure it is not diverted to a weapons program.
Despite these unequivocal facts, Obama announced on Sept. 25 that Iran has been caught with a "secret nuclear facility" with which to produce a bomb that would threaten the world.
The Obama regime’s claim that Iran is not in compliance with the safeguards agreement is disinformation. Between the end of 2004 and early 2007, Iran voluntarily complied with an additional protocol (Code 3.1) that was never ratified and never became a legal part of the safeguards agreement. The additional protocol would have required Iran to notify the IAEA prior to beginning construction of a new facility, whereas the safeguards agreement in force requires notification prior to completion of a new facility. Iran ceased its voluntary compliance with the unratified additional protocol in March 2007, most likely because of the American and Israeli misrepresentations of Iran’s existing facilities and military threats against them.
By accusing Iran of having a secret "nuclear weapons program" and demanding that Iran "come clean" about the nonexistent program, adding that he does not rule out a military attack on Iran, Obama mimics the discredited Bush regime’s use of nonexistent Iraqi "weapons of mass destruction" to set up Iraq for invasion.
The U.S. media, even the "liberal" National Public Radio, quickly fell in with the Obama lie machine. Steven Thomma of the McClatchy Newspapers declared the non-operational facility under construction, which Iran reported to the IAEA, to be "a secret nuclear facility."
Thomma, reported incorrectly that the world didn’t learn of Iran’s "secret" facility, the one that Iran reported to the IAEA the previous Monday, until Obama announced it in a joint appearance in Pittsburgh the following Friday with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
Obviously, Thomma has no command over the facts, a routine inadequacy of "mainstream media" reporters. The new facility was revealed when Iran voluntarily reported the facility to the IAEA on Sept. 21.
Ali Akbar Dareini, an Associated Press writer, reported, incorrectly, over AP: "The presence of a second uranium-enrichment site that could potentially produce material for a nuclear weapon has provided one of the strongest indications yet that Iran has something to hide."
Dareini went on to write that "the existence of the secret site was first revealed by Western intelligence officials and diplomats on Friday." Dareini is mistaken. We learned of the facility when the IAEA announced that Iran had reported the facility the previous Monday in keeping with the safeguards agreement.
Dareini’s untruthful report of "a secret underground uranium enrichment facility whose existence has been hidden from international inspectors for years" helped to heighten the orchestrated alarm.
There you have it. The president of the United States and his European puppets are doing what they do best – lying through their teeth. The U.S. "mainstream media" repeats the lies as if they were facts. The U.S. "media" is again making itself an accomplice to wars based on fabrications. Apparently, the media’s main interest is to please the U.S. government and hopefully obtain a taxpayer bailout of its failing print operations.
Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, a rare man of principle who has not sold his integrity to the U.S. and Israeli governments, refuted in his report (Sept. 7, 2009) the baseless "accusations that information has been withheld from the Board of Governors about Iran’s nuclear program. I am dismayed by the allegations of some Member states, which have been fed to the media, that information has been withheld from the Board. These allegations are politically motivated and totally baseless. Such attempts to influence the work of the Secretariat and undermine its independence and objectivity are in violation of Article VII.F. of the IAEA Statute and should cease forthwith."
As there is no legal basis for action against Iran, the Obama regime is creating another hoax, like the nonexistent "Iraqi weapons of mass destruction." The hoax is that a facility, reported to the IAEA by Iran, is a secret facility for making nuclear weapons.
Just as the factual reports from the weapons inspectors in Iraq were ignored by the Bush regime, the factual reports from the IAEA are ignored by the Obama regime. Like the Bush regime, the Middle East policy of the Obama regime is based in lies and deception.
Who is the worse enemy of the American people, Iran or the government in Washington and the media whores who serve it?

I think it's not so much that the "media" "serves [the government]", per se, but rather, it's a case where the same psychopaths that own the government also happen to own the "media".
And yes, I agree that another war is in the works, most likely with catastrophic consequences for the whole world.

Europe is doing what it has done since the very beginning: stalling. Medvedev has said essentially nothing and Sarkozy talked about unspecified "sanctions" in December (sic!) if, if, if and if. By December, the dust will have settled and the IAEA will have inspected and found nothing illegal. At most, Iran will be criticised for something or other. Sticks and stones will break your bones, but words will never hurt you!

Once again, Mr. Roberts, a true patriot, is 100% correct. Mr. Roberts; "Who is the worse enemy of the American people, Iran or the government in Washington and the media whores who serve it?" The American people need only fear their government which is owned lock, stock and barrel by America's Ruling Establishment (a political-military- banking-corporate cabal which is composed of greedy and power-hungry; liars, thieves and murderers). From what I've read, I strongly doubt Iran is seeking to build atomic bombs. But what if they are building them? How could anyone blame them? It must now seem to any foreign nation that the only possible way to avoid an unjustified, immoral and aggressive invasion by the United States of Force is to deploy nuclear weapons. An undeniable truth that every government in the world knows, but is hesitant to admit is this: God made powerful nations and God made weak nations, but is was Edward Teller and nuclear technology that made them all equal.

If Bibi Netanyahu wants to involve the United States in yet one more war,. You can be sure that his will – will be done. The United States will do the murder, suffer the casualties, and pick up the tab. This will, of course, be in the best interest of the American people. Those who aren't currently unemployed probably soon will be.

Great article as always from Mr. Roberts. If the Death and Destruction Party gets away with this war again it would be one extraordinary accomplishment. And a shameful testament to the sheepishness and impotence of the American people- but that's the whole point of democracy isn't it, to take political advantage of the deferral and difusion of responsibility in crowds. But the rest of the world are co-conspirators in the upcoming disaster by being mere bystanders as the US shadow government commits another attrocity on a powerless people.

To Geo1671: yes, you are correct. At the last hour, Buchanan will always hedge his bets and choose to side with our American Ruling Establishment of traitors and whores over real American patriots, like Paul Craig Roberts, who take a stand for life, liberty, honesty, truth and peace. Back in the 1960's, I recall reading a poem by Yevgeny Yevtushenko. He lived in the Soviet Union and was persecuted by the government for writing the following lines: "one day, posterity will remember, this strange era, these strange times, when ordinary common honesty was called courage." Those same lines could describe the news media in America today. Could they not?

Paul Craig Roberts seems very much alone amongst libertarian writers in his ability to see the remorseless and relentless push toward war by the Zionists and the FedGov against Iran. Everyone else seems to get bogged down in the irrelevant disinformation and propaganda thrown up about the authoritarianism of the Iranian government and the completely bogus smoke and mirror act put on regarding the Iranian nuclear program. This is a serious indictment of the American antiwar movement, as Roberts points out in another column, because it points to a profound inability to think beyond the parameters established by the war-mongers.

Yes, the Russians and Chinese have much responsibility in the fact that things have gone on for so long. Undoubtedly, they are playing the time-honored game of giving the adversary all the rope he needs to hang himself, but that is small consolation for the Iranians, who must suffer from it all.

I will hold Russia particularly morally responsible for any damage done to Iran, as it's been apparently leading the Iranians along, making them think it will sell them an effective air defense system, i.e., the S-300 SAM system, but then at the last minute refusing to do so.
Now it's probably too late for the Iranians to try to get another system on line (even an apparently inferior one such as the Chinese HQ-9 would probably have been better than nothing) before the Zioni$t crusaders attack it.
The Russians are pathetic fools for selling out an ally for the sake of faux "improved relations" with the USraeli Empire. I hope nobody buys anything from Russia.

We all should just face the simple fact, ISRAEL is going to goad us into yet another war, nothing is going to stop the maddness that supports that drive to wage war on behalf of Israel. Instead, each and every one of us should prepare to face the destruction of our society as we know it.
What I mean by this isn't we're all DOOMED, no…what I mean is we're going to be faced with a new way of life where we must fend for ourselves, no longer relying on the corner store for food/water and we must defend our own property and lives against those social misfits who will no doubt exploit the outcome with violence, terror.
For this, I have built a disaster preparedness website which is suitable for beginners to advanced preppers alike http://www.SurvivalTime.org

I saw the report on the news the other day about the new 'secret facility', and this is the first article i have read on the topic.
The images of the facility appeared to show that it had been under construction for some time. If this is the case, why did Iran wait so long to comply with the IAEA requirement to notify them about the construction and intended purpose? If this was going to be a 100% above board operation, why not file the necessary papers of intent, etc, while the the project was still on paper and in the planning stages?
Another point to consider is this: The timing of the IAEA notification, just a week before a story was going to break in the media, is more than a bit suspicious to me. I am sure it is plausible that the filing takes time to appear in the official record, and while some fact checking must have occurred at some point, the evidence of the notification could easily have not been available at that time. If the filing records were not available during fact checking, it is easy to see how this could have been viewed as a 'secret facility', and the subsequent treatment of the matter in the Media. In the end, however, it sounds to me like Iran executed the filing in such a way as to preempt allegations of secrecy.
And if that IS the case, then I believe that perhaps Mr Roberts may have become an unwitting accomplice in spreading the notion that Iran is a victim of our Media Propaganda machine, and the Government it is alleged to serve.
