How to End the Gaza Violence
As of late Friday the ceasefire in Gaza seems to be holding, if tentatively. While we should be pleased that this round of fighting appears temporarily on hold, we must realize that without changes in U.S. foreign policy it is only a matter of time before the killing begins again.
It feels like 2009 all over again, which is the last time this kind of violence broke out in Gaza. At that time, over 1,400 Palestinians were killed, of which just 235 were combatants. The Israelis lost 13, of which 10 were combatants. At that time, I said of then-President Bush’s role in the conflict: “It’s our money and our weapons. But I think we encouraged it. Certainly, the president has said nothing to diminish it. As a matter of fact, he justifies it on moral grounds, saying, oh, they have a right to do this, without ever mentioning the tragedy of Gaza…. To me, I look at it like a concentration camp.”
The U.S. role has not changed under the Obama administration. The same mistakes continue. As journalist Glenn Greenwald wrote last week: “For years now, U.S. financial, military, and diplomatic support of Israel has been the central enabling force driving this endless conflict. The bombs Israel drops on Gazans, and the planes they use to drop them, and the weapons they use to occupy the West Bank and protect settlements are paid for, in substantial part, by the U.S. taxpayer….”
Last week, as the fighting raged, President Obama raced to express U.S. support for the Israeli side, in a statement that perfectly exemplifies the tragicomedy of U.S. foreign policy. The U.S. supported the Israeli side because, he said, “No country on Earth would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders.” Considering that this president rains down missiles on Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and numerous other countries on a daily basis, the statement was so hypocritical that it didn’t pass the laugh test. But it wasn’t funny.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton traveled to Tel Aviv to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, but she refused to meet with elected Palestinian leaders. Clinton said upon arrival in Israel, “America’s commitment to Israel’s security is rock solid and unwavering.” Does this sound like an honest broker?
At the same time, Congress acted with similar ignobility when an unannounced resolution was brought to the House floor after the business of the week had been finished; and in less than 30 seconds the resolution was passed by unanimous consent, without debate and without most representatives even having heard of it. The resolution, H. Res. 813, was so one-sided it is not surprising they didn’t want anyone to have the chance to read and vote on it. Surely at least a handful of my colleagues would have objected to language such as “The House of Representatives expresses unwavering commitment to the security of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state with secure borders.”
U.S. foreign policy being so one-sided actually results in more loss of life and security on both sides. Surely Israelis do not enjoy the threat of missiles from Gaza, nor do the Palestinians enjoy their Israel-imposed inhuman conditions in Gaza. But as long as Israel can count on its destructive policies being underwritten by the U.S. taxpayer it can continue to engage in reckless behavior. And as long as the Palestinians feel the one-sided U.S. presence lined up against them, they will continue to resort to more and more deadly and desperate measures.
Continuing to rain down missiles on so many increasingly resentful nations, the U.S. is undermining rather than furthering its security. We are on a collision course with much of the rest of the world if we do not right our foreign policy. Ending interventionism in the Middle East and replacing it with friendship and even-handedness would be a welcome first step.

thanks for the honest and bold article. but dr. paul…… will you please come out and state that 9/11 involved many elements in the USG, at the highest levels, and USG agencies? that there was a massive coverup? that the ANTHRAX attacks were a parallel proven false flag, we do not have the full story on yet, and the white house was on cipro ON 9/11? that those behind the anthrax attacks and 9/11 brazenly tried to link iraq to the anthrax?
i was always wishing you would run 3rd party, get in a debate, and DROP the bomb about 9/11 in the last televised debate…. it would be transformative, if you mentioned WTC7 and spoke with authority on the many *facts* the 9/11 truth community has aggregated. the media would be buzzing and could not ignore the words you could have said.
OK, no such luck, but will you finally come out re 9/11? we *need* 9/11 truth, as it is the ONE issue which can reverse our deadly, and suicidal, trajectory.

Whoever chose the heading "Violence in Gaza" has fallen into the cunning trap pro Israeli apologists recite for bombing of the Gaza citizens.
Example Ban Ki Moon has a Jewish speechwriter who is very adroitly plays with the same words.
Example quote by ban Ki Moon after the massive destruction of Gaza including a UN worker killed.
" I deplore the violence in Gaza. I condemn the rocket attacks launched from Gaza. I call on both sides to exersize maximum restraint to protect civillians."
As can be seen Ban Ki Moon even after knowing of the death of a UN worker and the other criminal targetting by Israel just will not condemn Israel. I believe Ban Ki Moon hasn't the time to write his speeches bit I would have thought he would have realised when he is being used.

A heads up commentary by Dr. Paul. A complete re-appraisal and redirection of America's policies in the Middle East and affecting its position globally is a MUST. The past and present policies "one sided as they are" can only add to the acceleration of the US becoming a second power.
In essence then the collision course can only be attributed to the decisions made by non "first, foremost, truly Americans."

As long as the zionist international banking cartel that hides behind the "Anti Semitic" shield and engineered both major 20th century wars and is the tip of the "THE NEW WORLD ORDER" is not exposed for what it is,people like Ron Paul will be marginalized and will get nowhere.

One positive change is the tone of the discussion on Israel. More and more Americans of all religions are doing the background reading needed to understand the nature of Zionism. This is important because only with such understanding will policy change. Whereas before one could feel and often hear the fear of being labled "anti-Semitic" now the focus is more on what really happened. Many Israeli historians and writers who question the traditional narrative are being read and this is leading to higher quality of discourse. Ron Paul has led the way in speaking out. There will be more in the years ahead. Just as the "old White men" of the Republican party have been finally exposed for what they are, so also will the old Zionists. It will be a bitter pill for many idealists who bought into the myths, but in the end truth will prevail.

Considering that there isn't even "unwavering support" for Israeli Palestinian policies among Israelis, our own U.S. "rock-solid" support seems more rock headed.

it is a sad loss to the world that Ron Paul wasn't elected as the president instead of "meet the new boss same as the old boss" Obama. Although on the other hand, if he had achieved getting into the white house he would have been "removed" by the faceless interests and cartels that really control the government. It reminds me of something that the writer William Blum once wrote: On the first day of being elected I will apologise to those countries that have been bombed by our armed forces. On the second day I will end the free ride that the state of Israel gets in the form of billions of dollars. On the third day…..I'll be assassinated

"Violence in Gaza" is the title or heading to this article is a pro IDF and a sort of support and it is a trap the writter fall in
In reality it should be ( ATTACKING GAZA ), as Gaza is attacked by the IDF as usual along the previous years …. This happens with the US green light to attack the most crowded area in the world which is an open air prison ( big prison ) , blockade , siege for more than 5 years.
Good to see people say ( we must realize that without changes in U.S. foreign policy it is only a matter of time before the killing begins again. ).
Yes it is so as far as Us blindly supports the IDF with Vitoes, weapons , money and giving the IDF the green light to attack GAZA in specific and all Palestinians in general .
Attacking must be stopped forever and peace with safety must exist with justice .
US to stop its support and donation to the IDF .
IDF to withdraw from the 1967 occupied territories which is internationally recognized as te result of the IDF WAR on 1967.
Palestinians are humans with insani humanitarian senses love to live love thier life and children , they need thier right to survive as humans as those in other countries in the world in peace and safety, they need to end te occupation and be safe be productive develop and progress.

Well said, Mr Paul. What a shame that the idiots who rule the U.S. can't understand this simple truth.
But making war make money, doesn't it? That trumps logic everytime!

He might be referring to all those other countries that the US is dropping missiles on.
