TSA Releases VIPR Venom on Tennessee Highways
Listen to Rep. Ron Paul deliver this address.
If you thought the Transportation Security Administration would limit itself to conducting unconstitutional searches at airports, think again. The agency intends to assert jurisdiction over our nation’s highways, waterways, and railroads as well. TSA launched a new campaign of random checkpoints on Tennessee highways last week, complete with a sinister military-style acronym — VIPR — as a name for the program.
As with TSA’s random searches at airports, these roadside searches are not based on any actual suspicion of criminal activity or any factual evidence of wrongdoing whatsoever by those detained. They are, in effect, completely random. So first we are told by the U.S. Supreme Court that American citizens have no 4th Amendment protections at border crossings, even when standing on U.S. soil. Now TSA takes the next logical step and simply detains and searches U.S. citizens at wholly internal checkpoints.
The slippery slope is here. When does it end? How many more infringements on our liberties, our property, and our basic human rights to travel freely will it take before people become fed up enough to demand respect from their government? When will we demand that the government heed obvious constitutional limitations and stop treating ordinary Americans as criminal suspects in the absence of probable cause?
The real tragedy occurs when Americans incrementally become accustomed to this treatment on the roads just as they have become accustomed to it in the airports. We already accept arriving at the airport two or more hours before a flight to get through security; will we soon have to build an extra two or three hours into our road trips to allow for checkpoint traffic?
Worse, some people are lulled into a false sense of security and are actually grateful for this added police presence! Should we really hail the expansion of the police state as an enhancement to safety? I submit that an attitude of acquiescence to TSA authority is thoroughly dangerous, un-American, and insulting to earlier, freedom-loving generations who built this country.
I am certain people will complain about this, once they have to sit in stopped traffic for a few extra hours to allow for random searches of cars. However, I am also certain it merely will take another “foiled” plot to silence many people into gladly accepting more government mismanagement of safety.
Vigilant, observant, law-abiding, gun-owning citizens defend themselves and stop crimes every day before police can respond. That is the source of real security in America: the 2nd Amendment right to defend oneself. The answer is for people to be empowered to protect themselves. Yet how many weapons might these checkpoints confiscate? Even when individuals go through all the legal hoops of licensing and permits, the chances of harassment or outright confiscation of weapons and detention of citizens when those weapons are found at a TSA checkpoint is extremely high.
Disarming the highways and filling them full of jack-booted thugs demanding to see our papers is no way to make them safer. Instead, it is a great way to expand government surveillance powers and tighten the noose around our liberties.

Who the fuck is behind this act of idiocy? Seriously who's the nameless unaccountable non-elected bureacratic asshole responsible for this and why isn't he being fired? Why aren't our congress people (besides Ron Paul) demanding accountability? Who is going to protect us from these out of control Gestapo wannabes if our elected leaders won't????

Great, just great. Aren't we glad that our intrepid T&A is out there in the hotbed of terrorism, Tennessee, doing everything they can to keep us safe? They should unleash VIPR in the southern states and take advantage of the opportunity to deport all illegal immigrants. But let me guess, that would be racist, illegal, unconstitutional, immoral, etc. But harassing innocent Americans going about their daily business makes our country safer. How much longer does that maniac pistole get to run the T&A?

People should read Milton Mayers "They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45" for a glimpse into the American future. You'd best be howling loud and long about this or simply get ready to see it come to life in your quadrant of our Stasi-fied soyuz. I only wondered how long it would take for the arrogant bastard Pistole to push this dreck down our throats. Guess not too long, eh? Time to make exit plans from our workers paradise or prepare for the upcoming revolt.

Tennesseeans, welcome to the West Bank. This is the method that the interconnected clique of the Likud and the US based neocons are using to enslave the Christians and Muslims who live there. Wake up, Americans. You are in a race war and you do not know it. Your borders have been flung open and millions are being imported to replace you after the American version of the Holodomor has been executed. About 8,000,000 Ukrainian Christians were murdered in the greatest ethnic cleansing in Europe's long bloody history. Do not imagine that it can not happen here. They got away with it there They are getting away with it in Palestine. Do you really think you are safe? These people have hated you for 2,000 years. They have persecuted you at every opportunity over that period of time. Your strangulation is well under way.

Americans are too much cowards to defend their liberties. We still have not had it bad enough yet. But, once the government decides to begin taking peoples' guns, any cops that have not resigned ought to be fair game. Once they have our weapons we will be nothing more than slaves to elite with the police serving as their kapos against us.

The MSM has really come out strongly in support of this. You are a fringe humanoid if you don't appreciate this added security. Teocon supporters don't know where to turn on this issue.

Unfortunately I don't think America deserves it's citizens anymore. All empires are temporary, it's the people who make up the world and nations. Paying taxes to the tyrannical American government is supporting this type of behavior.
Not for me. Remember, the founding fathers were first Englishmen. They had their reasons for leaving as well. I can't stand this anymore.

NATO or the old colonial nations has no mission and I guess TSA is scared that they will become outdated so they like NATO look for something to do. NATO now starts wars which would not happen and TSA stops citizens that do not need to be stopped. It is always a mistake to start government programs because they can never be killed off. The nation constructed the interstate with gasoline tax money and today they are selling OUR roads to investors who are allowed to collect tolls on roads we paid for. So NATO, TSA, and toll authorities are classic examples of government programs and organization which must be eliminated.

It may be easier to assert constitutional rights at a TSA highway stop than at an airport.
One way: When you see that it is the TSA stopping you, you should first ask politely if you are being detained without answering any questions. If the answer is 'no', then inform the thug you are going to be on your way, and proceed to drive off slowly.
Or say politely: "I am an American and I am not waiving any of my constitutional rights". Then stick to it.
Or say politely: "What is your authority?" If the thug does not recite 4th amendment language, say "I do not recognize your authority", and proceed to drive off slowly.
Or say politely: "I am asserting my right to remain silent and to not be searched without probable cause".
Unfortunately, you may well be detained and/or taken somewhere. But that is America today. It is time to start enduring some major inconveniences in order to protect our liberties. It wasn't easy in 1776 and it won't be easy in 2012.

It's amazing that covering up a bungled burglary brought down Nixon but destroying the Bill of Rights got little coverage in the corporate press. Jefferson said "No government ought to be without censors & where the press is free, no one ever will." We have no free press these days. They have turned themselves into propaganda machines for competing interests and lost any ambition to seek the truth. Dr Paul can complain about this criminality of the government and they will trot out a shill to explain they are making us "safe" and append the press statement to another "balanced" unbiased report and go out for a drink.

True that it wasn't easy in 1776 but they were building a country not trying to save a failing empire.
"Never catch a falling knife".
One man trying to change the tide will be swept away. Not enough Americans have the fortitude to suffer inconvenience to try and change ANYTHING! And you and I aren't going to do it.
Not trying to be negative but we will have to pick up the pieces AFTER the US is shattered, similarly to the USSR. I'm getting out of the way of this hurtling boulder. It's not fear, it's logic.

One other point: this is directly from Zbigniew Brzezinski's "The Grand Chessboard", pg 19:
"It is also a fact that America is too democratic at home. This limits the use of America's power, especially it's capacity for military intimidation. Never before has a populist democracy attained international supremacy….the pursuit of power is not a goal that commands popular passion, except in conditions of sudden threat or challenge to the public's sense of domestic well being. The economic self-denial (i.e., defense spending) and the human sacrifice (casualties among…soldiers) required in the effort are uncongenial to democratic instincts. Democracy is inimical to imperial mobilization."
So you see this is policy. And it's more than TSA overstepping. It's about fundamentally changing the thinking of Americans and removing democracy from America by laws and enforcing those laws. The UCC and Patriot Act LEGALLY strip US citizens of their rights. I always laugh when people say, "you're violating such and such right! Amendment this and Amendment that!" HA!
They only let us believe we have rights so there's not outright revolt. Don't you ever wonder why the police can do what they want and never get prosecuted? They're not breaking the law!!!
AMERICA IS FINISHED. By design.

While I didn't run into any of the checkpoints, I don't have to: Y-12 is right down the road. All I have to do is drive up to one of the gates and presto, I'm and instant Turrist. Those Wackenhut guys are nutjobs and they have miniguns.

absolutely 100% correct. the true evil of the holocaust in germany (and everthing the nazis did) was that it was LEGAL BY THEIR OWN RULE OF LAW. once we've descended into this abyss there is no return.
and speaking of 1776, well revolution is overdue. TSA fascists need to be tarred and feathered.

Because there doesn't seem to be much purpose to these random searches, it would seem they are fishing expeditions. You can also imagine some slightly unbalanced private citizen panicking and giving chase, only to wind up dead.
I think the government may have miscalculated its welcome in this case. People are not terribly satisfied that things are as they should be, in case the powers that be had not noticed. It may be that Bonnie and Clyde will rise from their graves.

First of all the program just started.
Secondly, you need an education. The "bastards who are trying to destroy our nation" are trying to do so because we destroyed theirs. It's called blow back. That's what we have to live with. Read my quote above.
