Say No to This Illegal War
Rep. Ron Paul’s statement in front of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the US House of Representatives:
The American people have once again been suckered into an unconstitutional, undeclared, illegal, and unwise war. This is not a war in response to an attack on the United States. This is not a war against a regime that has threatened the United States. This is a preventative war. The president never claimed that any large-scale slaughter of civilians was taking place in Libya. Rather, the president has spent close to a billion dollars — so far — bombing a country because its government might at some point harm its civilians.
The president consulted NATO, the United Nations, and the Arab League for permission and authorization to use US military force against Libya. He ignored the one body that has the legal authority to grant that permission, the US Congress.
While we have not seen credible proof – nor has it been claimed – that the Gadhafi regime has engaged in any large-scale slaughter of Libyan civilians, we see increasing reports of civilians who have been killed in airstrikes by the forces that are supposed to protect them! It seems we may be causing the very problem our intervention was supposed to prevent.
After days of the administration’s public speculation about whether or not to arm the Libyan rebels, we hear from the media that the president already instructed the CIA to arm and assist the rebels several weeks ago. So we have gone from the phony pretext of stopping a massacre of civilians to engaging the US military and covert operatives directly to fight on one side of a civil war.
Who are the rebels we are fighting for in Libya? We don’t fully know. Press reports suggest that there are some 1,000 jihadists fighting on their behalf. Are we arming al-Qaeda in Libya? It certainly appears possible.
This is not really a new war. It is in fact a continuation of the neoconservatives’ 22-year war to remake the Middle East. Unfortunately the president has ignored the US constitution and decided instead to continue this misguided policy. This is a deeply flawed foreign policy that will only lead to escalation, blowback, and unintended consequences. Ultimately it is leading us to financial catastrophe. We must abandon the fantasy that we can police the world before it’s too late. Congress must stand up and say "no" to this illegal war.

Yes, its must. A roll call vote in the senate that is being debated is only one step. ."Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., just introduced a bill aimed at ensuring the Libya operation does not add to the deficit. military involvement The Bartlett proposal would require the president to provide Congress with a list of proposed cuts from the discretionary, non-military section of the budget to cover the military's expenses in Libya. " as only another good step. It needs to be defunded. As Rep. Mike Turner (R-Ohio) said it appears to many lawmakers that the War Powers Act “has not been complied with.”

1- Peace is when peace is desired.., war is when wars are committed illegally. US has a 60 years of history not respecting the US laws nor International laws going to war and this time they mean it.., seriously.., Clinton to Congress.., Obama will ignore your war resolution: “The White House would forge ahead with military action in Libya even if Congress passed a resolution constraining the mission, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said during a classified briefing to House members Wednesday afternoon”.

2- US have committed war crimes all over the world, from Vietnam war to Afghanistan and Iraq and now they are doing it again in Libya.., although there is lots of Oil in Libya but Oil is only a fraction of what the real mission is about.., the other part of the mission is opening a corridor to African Continent by winning the war in Libya and this time by all means.., having said that.., it tells me that this is the US – EU/NATO last resort in not comply with any laws but proceed with what they (present EU-US government) think is right.., now in the process if they go bankrupt for real this time or another million people are killed in Libya or elsewhere they don’t care.

3- They just want another war.., which the complicity of the question is the fact that USA – NATO is nothing but a militarism regime.., why.., is because US – NATO never been a democratic country.., US constitution is not based on that.., the US constitutions’ is based on ” Parliamentary Republic” which is totally different then democracy.., actually there is no such word as ”democracy” written in the US constitutions.., which opens the door for anything that could be called democracy.., which makes me wonder why then US in social political terms calls itself a system in democracy and why there is a democratic political party.

4- Although there is a Republican political party but that doesn’t mean that the word or the meaning of the word ”Republic” is about the American people…, Republic = People. For people.., as a republic.., they need to have a functioning social economic and political system to work for people.., not other way around.., as Johan F. Kennedy puts it.., it is not what government – country can do for you but what you can do for the country – government.., or something in that nature. My point is: US and EU.., their present social economic are based on capitalism where in term the system governs the political aspects of the system .., considering the fact that there is no such thing in social political terms as ”democracy” governing the social economic nor the political aspect of it…, which if that was the case then.., the system would have a ethical responsibility functioning for people welfare.., and everything would be about ”republic” – the people.., therefore, people – republic becomes the owner of the land or what is there for people including government.

5- Not having such functioning systems makes the country a lawless system functioning for the few and by the few and USA is fitting the distribution .., which in capitalism terms the result in political terms is no less then.., Hillary Clinton as a attorney knows what she is talking about.., she actually informing the hearing committee – world.., go a hade do what you have to do I am not listening.., almost all of you are guilty as I am.., you are just a parliament.., you don’t have any jurisdiction over me or white house for that matter.., we have our friend in justice department Eric H. Holder, Jr., you are just a gathering institution.., is made for you to have fun and get paid for what you do.., and the good part of it is that you are getting paid by the people.

I agree with Mr.Paul with one acception "unintended consequences" we have been doing this long enough to know comprehensively all consequences, therefore there are no unintended consequences just concealment.

If only the Congress posessed the intellect, respect for historical precedent, and wisdom that Representative Ron Paul so well represents and articulates, we would not find oursevlves nearly bankrupt, both morally and fiscally. God bless the Congressman, may others too, partake of this well-spring of waters… the waters of reason and of peace.

The Bartlett proposal is NOT a "good step." It is a typical Republican trick to cut those areas of the civilian budget that they don't like, while leaving the military budget intact. A REAL "good step" would be to cut a number of US bases in foreign countries from the military budget in order to pay for the Libya operation. As long as the military budget is not affected by military expenditures, neither the Pentagon, nor the US congress, nor the Obama administration needs to worry about the cost of the Libya operation.

This is just another "bomb the Arabs" campaign brought to us via the neocons. That understood, you can bet Congress will approve it. Killing Arabs is America's job one. Too bad the Arab League is too stupid to realize that. Ron Paul is right but he is just wasting his time.

AS usual, right on the money by Ron Paul with one important change:
"We must abandon the fantasy that we can RULE the world before it’s too late. Congress must stand up and say "no" to this illegal war."
