Iran Sanctions Are Precursor to War
Listen to Rep. Ron Paul on the Iran sanctions bill (MP3).
Last week the House overwhelmingly approved a measure to put a new round of sanctions on Iran. If this measure passes the Senate, the United States could no longer do business with anyone who sold refined petroleum products to Iran or helped them develop their ability to refine their own petroleum. The sad thing is that many of my colleagues voted for this measure because they felt it would deflect a military engagement with Iran. I would put the question to them, how would Congress react if another government threatened our critical trading partners in this way? Would we not view it as asking for war?
This policy is pure isolationism. It is designed to foment war by cutting off trade and diplomacy. Too many forget that the quagmire in Iraq began with an embargo. Sanctions are not diplomacy. They are a precursor to war and an embarrassment to a country that pays lip service to free trade. It is ironic that people who decry isolationism support actions like this.
If a foreign government attempted to isolate the U.S. economically, cut off our supply of gasoline, or starve us to death, would it cause Americans to admire that foreign entity? Or would we instead unite under the flag for the survival of our country?
We would not tolerate foreign covert operations fomenting regime change in our government. Yet our CIA has been meddling in Iran for decades. Of course Iranians resent this. In fact, many in Iran still resent the CIA’s involvement in overthrowing their democratically elected leader in 1953. The answer is not to cut off gasoline to the Iranian people. The answer is to stay out of their affairs and trade with them honestly. If our operatives were no longer in Iran, they would no longer be available as scapegoats for the regime to, rightly or wrongly, blame for every bad thing that happens. As bad as other regimes may be, it is up to their own people to deal with them so they can achieve true self-determination. When foreigners instigate regime change, the new government they institute is always perceived as serving the interest of the overthrowing country, not the people. Thus we take the blame for bad governance twice. Instead, we should stay out of their affairs altogether.
With the exception of the military-industrial complex, we all want a more peaceful world. Many are hysterical about the imminent threat of a nuclear Iran. Here are the facts: Iran has never been found out of compliance with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) they signed. However, being surrounded by nuclear powers one can understand why they might want to become nuclear capable if only to defend themselves and to be treated more respectfully. After all, we don’t sanction nuclear-capable countries. We take diplomatic negotiations a lot more seriously, and we frequently send money to them instead. The non-nuclear countries are the ones we bomb. If Iran was attempting to violate the Non-Proliferation Treaty, they could hardly be blamed, since U.S. foreign policy gives them every incentive to do so.

How many countries is the US, my country, going to take over for the Israeli right wing? Iraq, Afghanistan, Is Syria next? When does it stop when the middle class is smothered into the ground and joining the military becomes the only option for our bored youth? This is an act of war. I don't like Iran's theocracy, I wouldn't want to live there.
They will develop refinement with help from other countries, and others will continue buy up their oil. All Empires fall. We are addicts. The polls are saying Americans don't want too much foreign involvement, our Legislative Branch is not listening. The US should back off or be wiser about it.

The American 'Republic' has been long dead. It has been replaced by the most corrupt government on this green Earth that does NOT represent the people, but that looks after its own interests and that of Corporate America which profits from war. Zionist Neocons like William Kristol (a Zionist TRAITOR to the US who should be sent on a leaky boat one way trip to Israel) brags how the US is the new and more powerful Rome. BUT – the old Rome, as are ALL empires, is merely dust on the pages of History – which is where the US is fast headed. Cicero noted some 2000 years ago: "The arrogance of officialdom should be curtailed and controlled, and assistance to foreign hands should be curtailed, less Rome fall." This is America today – same actions – we'll have the same results – America will fall!

Again, no mention of AIPAC by Ron Paul.. Why Ron. Are you afraid of AIPAC too? AIPAC drafted this bill and pushed its people in congress to vote for it. This never would have been written, let alone have passed the house, if it were not for Israel and its spies in the US

Right to the point, and ron paul has mentioned AIPAC and the israel lobby plenty of times. he already has enough enemies and we have seen plenty of examples on any politicians that go against AIPAC's chokehold on this country. Anyways there are plenty of diligent commentators here to point anyone curious deeper into researching the problem on their own, and of course we need to be diligent because the hasbara brigade will be out in full force soon enough saying that same old same old.
I just wish we had more politicians like rp, too many that will do anything to show who has more fealty to israel.
the really question is, when does this all collapse? the war against iran (for israel of course) could be the tipping point for the fall of this empire. if history has taught us anything all empires fall, and its always their own hubris that brings them down.

Trade sanctions against Japan before Pearl Harbor are what lured Japan to attack there, despite that the US, up until that time, had helped finance the Japanese invasion of Manchuria. Roosevelt needed a justification for war against Germany, and Japan was part of the Axis Powers. Sanctions against Iran will provide the US with a plausible explanation for another false flag incident that will be used to justify an attack on Iran. Pearl Harbor was not a false flag incident. Roosevelt expected the Japanese to launch an attack on the Philipines or southeast asia, and was wrong. The Iranians are not that warlike, so the US will have to kill more American citizens to make it look so.

Why would Ron Paul be worried about AIPAC just because he doesn't mention them? I'm sure what he said pissed them off plenty.

The new US jet drone seen in Afghanistan and probably testing the Russian S-400s along the border , was shown in pics as a miniature B-2 stealth bomber and besides that , what struck my attention was the dull silvery skin the airplain had . Dull perhaps due to mini gulfball-like dimples inbeded in the apparent aluminum body to scater radar . This is oposite to the dark , rubbery skin of a real B-2 . Would this new metalic skin addition be an attempt to protect the drone from nuclear EMP ?
This thougth goes hand in hand with the Mutual Assured Distruction which by definition prevents a country from being attacked . The Russian S-300/400s can place Iran under that umbrela . Also I trust that only fools believe that Iran is not building its personal Nuclear umbrela .
Technology evens out political desires and can bring brybery , corruption , blackmail and eventually murder to a halt , once against something that can not be phisically threatened .

Ron Paul has often mentioned AIPAC and spoken up against it's power. He is not afraid of AIPAC and could possibly pay for it with his life if they do not succed in removing him from office.

Obama said the Democrats will bring "Change" in US policy. We have yet to see that change. In Iraq Bush said they had WMDs which never existed; in Afghanistan it is Osama-bin-Laden who is long gone dead; now in Iran it is the Nuclear Re-processessing plant………….wonder whats next?

Actually Syria is next but there will be no propaganda reports on Syria. Iran is bigger. Once Iran is attacked, they will just go straight into Syria. War with Iran is WW3 plain and simple. With War with Iran you get Israel destroyed, you get lebanon destroyed, you get Iran destroyed, you get syria destroyed, and you get America destroyed. Then you get India, China and Russia as the new superpowers.
Once Iran is hit by America, syria will come to their aid. Syria is like Irans little Arab Brother. If Syria was bigger than Iran then we would be hearing Syria Rhetoric and saying how Assad wants Israel wiped off of the map.
Basically War with Iran entails War with syria and the Israel Lobby KNOWS this.
My guess is this will ultimately lead to the death of America, Israel, Lebanon, Iran and Syria.
