The most troubling prerogative of modern government is the ability of the sovereign or head of state to go to war. War means death, debt, and, if the decision is a bad one, the very end of civil society and the prevailing political order. Because war is potentially so terrible, a number of nations have curtailed the ability of the executive authority to make such a decision without first satisfying conditions imposed through constitutional and other political restraints. It is perhaps ironic that the world’s oldest republic, the United States, has ignored its own constitution to grant to the president the authority to enter into armed conflict through the simple expedient of not actually declaring war. America has been de facto at war continuously since 2001 and the recent National Defense Authorization Act has codified an unending conflict in which the whole world is a battlefield and everyone in it is a potential enemy combatant subject to no constitutional or legal protection.
Many critics of the perennially lopsided relationship that the United States enjoys with Israel have noted a disturbing shift in the relationship during the first three years of the Obama Administration. To be sure, Obama appears to genuinely dislike Israel’s arrogant Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a sentiment that is fully reciprocated. But Obama is bound hand and foot into an engagement with Israel in which he lacks leverage over what might or might not take place. Even George W. Bush was able to say no to Israel when it was mooted that Tel Aviv might attack Iran, but Obama has painted himself into a corner where the United States has little influence over what might occur. Whether the Obama reticence is due to the control exercised by his Chicago billionaire patrons, the Crown and Pritzker families, both of which are strong supporters of the Middle East status quo, or whether it is just a more generalized fear about what might happen in the upcoming national elections, the result has been paralysis in Washington. Recent war games conducted by the Pentagon have confirmed that a new conflict with Iran started by Israel would quickly draw the United States in and would become regional in nature. The war would not produce a good result for anyone involved and would be particularly bad for the United States, which would again slide into deep recession as energy prices soar.
So Israel can start a war and the United States can do nothing to stop it and will become a major victim of whatever plays out. If that is true, why is the mainstream media ignoring the story? The account of the disturbing Pentagon war games did indeed appear in the New York Times and was picked up in a number of other places, but it quickly died out, as always happens with stories that are critical of Israel and its policies. Supporters of Israel might also be quick to note that the hue and cry against another war is largely coming from the usual suspects who are philosophically opposed to interventionism, including supporters of Ron Paul and a number of contributors to this website. But given their underlying pretense that the US is supporting Israel due to its own national interests, perhaps they should take another look at a document that recently surfaced on WikiLeaks. The document enables one to better understand that where Israel leads in foreign and security policy the United States will inevitably follow.
The summary of the Secret message, which I reproduce in full, is:
"SECRET cable from U.S. Embassy, Tel Aviv, dated 12 December 2009.
"1. (S) Summary: Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Ellen Tauscher visited Israel December 1-2. U/S Tauscher focused her visit on setting the stage for a successful Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference (RevCon) in May 2010. She consulted with GOI interlocutors on potential strategy in addressing Egyptian insistence on pushing for the establishment of a nuclear weapon free zone (NWFZ) in the Middle East, as a way to divert attention from Iran to Israel. U/S Tauscher reiterated that the United States will not take any action to compromise Israel’s security and would consult closely with Israel — which GOI officials greatly appreciated. Nevertheless, U/S Tauscher said the United States is interested in exploring possible small steps involving Israel to address some of Egypt’s NWFZ concerns regarding the lack of implementation of the 1995 resolution. GOI officials for the most part were critical of these tactics, questioning why Israel should be portrayed as part of the problem. They recommended a more direct approach to President Mubarak – thereby circumventing the Egyptian MFA — in which Egypt is reminded that Iran is the regional nuclear threat. Other topics discussed include President Obama’s arms control and nonproliferation agenda, the P5 1 process and Iran’s nuclear program, the FMCT and CTBT, Jordan’s plans for a nuclear reactor, and Israel’s qualitative military edge (QME)."
Washington is sacrificing a vital interest, control of nuclear proliferation through the establishment of a nuclear free zone, to protect Israel’s ability to remain a secret nuclear power and dominate its neighbors. Read the message any way one wishes, but it would seem clear that Washington is colluding with Israel to shield the latter’s nuclear program from any scrutiny, a successful Non-Proliferation conference being one in which Israel is not discussed at all. If the US is seriously interested in limiting the spread of nuclear weapons one would think that Israel’s program is part of the problem, but Israel is making clear that any such suggestion is unacceptable and the Obama Administration agrees without pushing any alternative policy. Tauscher even goes one step further, pledging Washington to never act in any way that would "compromise Israel’s security" (as defined by Israel itself).
Tauscher and her Israeli interlocutors prefer to shift the narrative to Iran and do it through the back door by ignoring the Egyptian Foreign Ministry and explaining things to President Hosni Mubarak, who is presumed to be sympathetic. Iran, or course, did not then and does not now have any nuclear weapons and no nuclear program while Israel has hundreds of nukes and both missiles and submarines to deliver them with, but facts shouldn’t intrude into a friendly discussion between friends. It is also interesting to note how Israel’s "qualitative military edge" is so much a part of US security doctrine that it has its own acronym – QME.
The Babylonian Captivity is a biblical reference to the conquest of the ancient Israelites by the Babylonians, after which the people of Israel were allegedly removed from their homes and physically transferred to Babylon. A later so-called Babylonian Captivity refers to the abduction of the Medieval papacy, which occurred in 1309 when the French King Philip IV moved the pope and most of his cardinals lock stock and barrel to the delightful city of Avignon, where they remained for 68 years before the Holy See was restored to Rome. The French sought to use the powerful papacy with its vast bureaucracy to support their own foreign policy ambitions. It is perhaps not an inappropriate metaphor for what has occurred between Washington and Tel Aviv, with key decision making for the United States now being transferred to Israel. The State Department message clearly reveals that when it comes to foreign policy the American people are no longer masters of their own destiny and at best can only negotiate issues with the Israelis while at the same time issuing a carte blanche in support of anything Tel Aviv chooses to do.
If the Republicans gain the White House in November things will only get worse, as Mitt Romney has explicitly stated that he would defer to Israel on all Middle Eastern security issues. Perhaps it is time for a wake-up call in the United States. Instead of presidential wannabes declaring their subservience to Tel Aviv, they should perhaps begin emphasizing that they will only act in the future in the interests of the American people. To do so would exclude an unnecessary war against Iran, which would be both a shameful action and also the next major step in bringing our country to its knees. Most Americans choose to think that foreign policy does not really impact on their daily lives, but they are wrong to believe so. War in the Middle East and Asia have destroyed the US economy and moved America closer to a police state. Telling Israel clearly and emphatically that it is on its own if it wishes to dominate its neighbors and go to war would restore much need perspective and would do much to right the ship of state back here in the US.

Well said Mr. Giraldi. Sadly the ruling elite in Babylon-On-The-Potomac scrape and bow, with much groveling obeisance, to the Israelis and America is stuck with the consequences. Yeah and, we get to pay for that as well.
To this day, I can't for the life of me figure out WHAT the Israelis hold over imperial Washington. Must be something so hideous, that bravehearts like Barack the Beneficent, are too freaking timid to challenge a murderous punk like Netanyahu.
Damn shameful.

What I want to know is how did this happen? How did we get to this point in such a relative short time. Who decided that from now on US foreign policy would be drafted by likud? How come everyone else in the government just went along with it? Why didn't anyone raise the alarm?
In way it's typical for the way America works. Want a recommendation letter? Write it yourself and so and so will sign it. Who gets to write laws regarding banking and finance? wall street. and the cowards in the Congress and the White House robosign it. A plan to help the elderly with meds? Written by big pharma and happily approved by the whores in DC. Conflict of interest becomes the accepted norm and the way legislation happens in the US. Perhaps it's no surprise the US foreign policy gets to be written by the one nation that stands to benefit the most from it. And as always, it's the American people who pay the price. The purpose of all domestic legislation is to benefit the 1%. When it comes to foreign affairs, 0.001% of the world's population stands to benefit.

One thing the Israelis hold over America is the U.S. tax dollars they receive to be used to fund congressional campaigns wiith the stipulation that each member of Congress will vote to support any requests from the Government of Israel. If a member does not follow the script provided by AIPAC, money will be given to whomever is opposing that member in the next election. Findley of Illinois is one instance of a member removed through AIPAC's efforts and also provided an example to each member of Congress the same actions to remove them would be used to defeat that member. Giraldi knows this and all congressional representatives know what they must do to hold their seats.

Obama has been in the pocket of the Zionist branch of the Chicago Machine ever since he first ran for office. I think he is sick of being their step and fetchit, but has no idea about how to get out of their clutches. Romney is pledging undying support of Israel. But he is a very rich man, with a powerful backing from the Mormons, and the Anglo elites. I don't think he likes being Tel Aviv's lackey any more then Obama does. Perhaps this captivity will be shorter then we think. I sure hope to see it's end soon. Maybe they are finally overplaying their hand.

israel is a militarist racist apartheid state. It is immoral, unjust and downright ugly. While stopping short of total naziism, israel, and its founding ideology, adopt the same principles as the nazis; namely :1) the belief that it is their divine right to create a purified ethnically cleansed state based on some made up racial classification. 2) the expansion of that state through stolen land based on the principle of lebensraum for the superior race. and 3) a perceived divine right to use any degree of violence and or injustice to achieve goals 1 and 2.

Some good questions and comments, and the cable itself reads more clearly if you make minor substitutions, as in:
"Nevertheless, U/S Tauscher said that West Israel is interested in exploring possible small steps involving East Israel to address some of Egypt’s NWFZ concerns regarding the lack of implementation of the 1995 resolution. "
At this late stage an outright name change for the US wouldn't much matter.

The English political writer John Gray once wrote words to the effect that "giving a tribe of Baloba monkeys arms" would lead to the extermination of other species. In the grisly conditions of the west and the Middle East, an apt parallel would be "giving the tribe of Israel weapons of mass destruction" has a strong chance of leading to the destruction of the rest of us.

As Philip Giraldi points out…Israel is the tail that wags the US dog! It is about time that the gutless US politicians tell Israel who is boss. if Tel Aviv wants to go to war, fine, but then let us tell them to go it on their own and not expect the US to haul their collective chestnuts out of the proverbial fire! When it comes to Israeli foreign policy, I cannot but remember the USS Liberty when Israeli jets attacked a US ship and then strafed the US Navy personnel who tried to abandon ship and climb into into life rafts.

I love Phil Giraldi but I think this is not as foregone conclusion as many might think. People will NOT stand for $10/gallon gas, food prices rocketing into the stratosphere for millions in the US already teetering on economic collapse. Obama may be a spineless douche when it comes to his jewish paymasters, but there is only so much domestic heat that he will allow himself to be cooked under for the tiny apartheid state on the Eastern Mediterranean.

Israel learned very well from the Gestapo. They must have files on the whole political class in the US. Israel has bribed, stole, assassinated and debased everything on its path. Most often the US goes along willingly, but there are instances when it is dragged, especially when the policies to be implemented are against American national interests.

The scary but inevitable thing to me, is that standing up to Israel, now that the insult of Israeli domination of the US Govt has become so overt, is likely some time soon to become a political opportunity for an enterprising demagogue. (In the current post-holocaust "narrative", this political "opportunity" is seen as "scapegoating" and "anti-Semitism". But now that the truth is emerging from the fog of that "narrative", we're beginning to grasp the "why" behind so-called "anti-Semitism:it arises from the abusive domination of a larger nation — here and now, the US — through subversion, in this case, by AIPAC-focused campaign contributions funded by the US Jewish community.)
So maybe anti-Semitism isn't entirely about baseless irrational animus, but rather about a five-thousand year pattern of abusing the locals.
And of course, the necessary full disclosure: I'm a Jew, … and I absolutely repudiate and oppose Zionist criminality.

The old Soviet-era GRU had a simple plan when they 'turned' an insider into an informant for money- they offered an exorbitant sum for relatively worthless information, but when it came time to deliver they had the recipient sign for it, in a receipt book "Just to keep our accounting straight, of course" was the explanation. BUT, if the informant later wanted out they dangled the receipt in front of them, proof they were in the employ of a foreign power and spying on their own country. Naturally, the person knew their career would be ruined and they'd possibly face jail time if they were outed as a spy, so…… they went along and went on to bigger and badder assignments.
I have to wonder, does Israel have a 'receipt book' on each of our politicians, and what derogatory information is being withheld only by their graces?

i dont believe that the murderers and villains who call themselves zionists can justly call themselves jews. Zionists are not the followers of moses. They are not believers of the ten commandments, they are not believers of god. Satan perhaps.
Unfortunately, Israels unjust actions are leading to unwarranted prejudice and hatred toward many genuine jews. I see this as one of the most unfortunate byproducts of zionism, in addition to this severe animosity between muslims and christians currently..
All of this, however, benefits and is exploited by Israel to further its racist agenda.
Indeed there is a country in the middle east which is a danger and a problem of the whole world, but that country is Israel, not iran

America's political hacks show more concern for the vile Zionist entity than they do for a United States Navy vessel and her crew, Americans murdered by Israel (Rachel Corrie, the Gaza aid flotilla), and the like.
Any nation that subordinates its interests to a foreign entity is no longer a viable, worthy nation. Future historians mulling over the ruins of the United States will have plenty to think about. . . .

"Unfortunately, Israels unjust actions are leading to unwarranted prejudice and hatred toward many genuine jews."
This is not an accidental outcome. This was the desired outcome. The zionists could have saved many jews during WW2, but they refused a Nazi offer to provide safe passage to jews out of Germany, because without the Nazi atrocities, the zionists could not have justified the usurpation of Palestine. In effect, the zionists are not "like Nazis" – they are one and the same. They just moved to Palestine.

Like some of the comments say, something has to be going on for this to keep on going. Even if a large percent of Americans are clueless, it doesn't matter. History shows that the educated groups are the shakers and movers of a nation, and you only need about 20% shakers to make changes. Yet, the change does not happen. We have a 2% Jewish population and not all 2% support the wars and Israeli aggression. So, something is going on….One thing, the media is largely controlled by Israeli interests. That is one of the biggest problems for why this proliferates. Also, Israel supporter Saban is now in Central and South America peddling the pro-Israel news.

I doubt that most Americans appreciate the level of corruption in America and especially in our Government. It was brought home to me when I called my Senator's office in Washington (Sen Rockefeller of WV). I was trying to convey my opinion of the Palestinian/Israeli mess (I support the Palestinians). I was shocked when the young man answering the phone started to argue with me insisting that the Palestinians were all terrorists and that Israel needed to "get rid of them". Infuriated, I started checking and found that the young man representing Sen Rockefeller was a "volunteer intern". He wasn't on the Senate payroll, he was representing himself or some other party, I guess. Turns out some colleges and organizations (read Lobbys) provide such interns so that they can "learn about government" and save the official office expense.. So, if you think that person answering the phone for your Congressman or Senator is dedicated to getting your opinion to your elected official, guess again. They may be there to make sure that your adverse opinion is NOT HEARD.

Israel was originally a project of Zionists, particularly zionist-marxist Jews with money and time on their hands.
The West has been using Israel as it's little puppet state for decades.
What happened appears to be Israel decided to take control of matters. In other words, the West lost control of its little baby. Even the UK, completely under the control of the Rothschild banking family and hierarchy, doesn't know what to do.
Subsequently, you get people like Giraldi, Atzmon, and Websites such as Veterans Today, working feverishly to subdue and put Israel back in its place.
Problem is Israel took control of the US Media and Political class…..hence, what we are seeing today.
I think Giraldi and Atzmon are correct, but nobody is talking about the Value system of the West in general, particularly that of UK, which dominates the banking situation.
It seems the empire would continue rolling on even if they can subdue Israel. It won't be as violent, but the World Government and NWO will continue forward.

We have a 2% Jewish population and not all 2% support the wars and Israeli aggression.
The problem isn't the Jews, it's the Zionists. As "jeff_davis" shows, not all Jews are Zionists. Even more importantly, not all Zionists are Jews. In fact, the so-called Christian Zionists (a.k.a. Armageddonites, Millenialists, and other names) likely outnumber their Jewish counterparts by a wide margin. Calling themselves Christians gives them a veneer of respectability among the general population, however undeserved. That, along with their numbers, makes them especially dangerous. They would gladly welcome the annihilation of 90%+ of the world's population as long as they could be "raptured" beforehand and watch the carnage from the ultimate cheap seats.

Disarming or neutralizing Israel's SUBMARINE-BORNE nukes would be especially problematic.
Especially in view of the fact that New York would be an easy target for such a submarine and its missiles. I believe New York may already have been hit in such an exercise on September 11, 2001. Fortunately, THOSE missiles had non-nuclear warheads.
