Journalist Executed in Mosul; 74 Killed in Iraq

Hashd Shaabi militiamen engaged in heavy fighting near Tal Afar and captured seven villages. The militias plan on reinforcing areas near the Syrian border to prevent Islamic State militants arriving from Syria. In Mosul, security forces freed two districts.

At least 74 were killed or found dead:

Forty victims were found in a mass grave in Qabr al-Abid.

In Mosul, militants executed a journalist. A car bomb killed and wounded dozens, including security personnel.

In Bawiza, fighting left one Iraqi soldier and 18 militants dead.

Twelve militants were killed in a strike on Rawa.

Shi’ite forces killed at least two bombers in Ashvah village.
