Saturday: 1 US Soldier, 7 Iraqis Killed; 3 Iraqis Wounded

Light violence left seven Iraqis dead and three more wounded. Also, the U.S. Dept. of Defense announced the death of a U.S. soldier on Thursday. He died from wounds received on June 6 during an indirect fire attack in Baghdad.

In Baghdad, gunmen killed a municipal worker in New Baghdad and murdered an army colonel on Palestine Street. A small arms attack in Karrada left one policeman with injuries.

A vegetable grocer was shot dead at his store in Abu Ghraib.

A pair of successive bomb blasts near a Baquba checkpoint killed three people and wounded two others.

Gunmen killed a Sahwa member in Kirkuk. A clash erupted between an M.P.’s protection force and that of the council.

A prisoner escaped in Mosul.
