Friday: 2 US Soldiers, 16 Iraqis Killed; 39 Iraqis Wounded

Two U.S. soldiers were killed and six were wounded during a suicide car bombing near the Iranian border. At least 16 Iraqis were killed and 39 more were wounded there and in other attacks across the country. Several attacks on U.S. targets have occurred in recent days.

A suicide car bomber in Jalawla killed two U.S. soldiers and wounded about six more. As many as eight Iraqis were killed and 24 more were wounded. According to witnesses, the Americans appeared to be searching for weapons when the suicide bomber drove up to their convoy in a taxi. A policeman and a woman were among the dead. Conflicting figures are common after bombings, especially those that result in U.S. troops sealing off the areas around attacks.

In Baghdad, a bomb hidden in trash left three dead and 10 wounded in Doura. An al-Qaeda leader was captured.

Two bodies were found north of Kirkuk.

Five people were wounded during a blast in Madaen.

A drive-by shooting in Tal Afar left one dead.

In Mosul, an army officer was killed when a bomb was tossed over a wall at Mosul University.

Al-Qaeda leaflets were distributed in Baquba.

A joint U.S.-Iraqi operation netted four al-Qaeda leaders in Khanaqin and two more in Mafraq.
