Sunday: 18 Iraqis Killed, 22 Wounded

At least 18 Iraqis were killed and 22 more were wounded in the latest round of violence. A possible political assassination took place in a quiet mixed area near Mosul. No Coalition deaths were reported.

Gunmen opened fired on a soccer game Dhuluiya. A policeman and an Awakening Council member were killed. Three people were wounded. Two people were killed and two more were wounded in a separate shooting. Six suspects were captured in an unrelated incident.

A bomb outside the Fallujah home of an anti-terrorism official injured him. Later, another bomb killed four policemen and wounded five others at the scene. The chief of police resigned from his post after the incident. In recent weeks, a surge in attacks in the area has cast doubt on security gains.

Three people were killed during a bombing in Wajihiya.

In Baghdad, a bomb on Palestine St. wounded six people. An IED in Adhamiya wounded four people. One dumped body was found.

In relatively safe Basheeqa, gunmen killed a man who was the member of a political organization representing the Shabak minority group. A parliamentarian from the Shabak group accused the Kurdistan Democratic Party of having hired an assassin for the job after the man had sued the KDP and received death threats. The KDP denied the accusations.

In Mosul, gunmen killed a bodyguard working for the provincial governor. A man was killed in a separate shooting. Gunmen killed another man. Two dumped bodies were discovered.

A blast in Buhriz wounded one civilian.

In Diyala, 31 detainees were released after proving their innocence.

Rockets and light munitions were confiscated in Wassit province.
