At least 32 Iraqis were killed and another 42 were wounded in the latest attacks. Meanwhile, one American soldier was killed and another was wounded during a rollover accident in Kirkuk today. Also, two journalism associations released a joint report documenting hundreds of false statements issued by President Bush and top administration officials during the build-up to the Iraq invasion.
In Baghdad, three dumped bodies were found. A roadside bomb in the Mashtal neighborhood wounded a policeman. In Jisr Diyala, a bomb blasted a Transportation Ministry minibus; one employee was killed and six others were wounded. In al-Amil, an "extremist brigade commander" was killed, and two hostages were freed. Four people were wounded during a roadside bomb attack in Karrada. A roadside bomb next a school in Amiriyah injured a child. Also, a street next to the Green Zone was closed due to a suspected car bomb.
Seven members of the same family were found dead in the orchards near Buhriz. A father, his five sons and a nephew were killed.
One person was killed and 21 others were wounded during a bombing at al-Jawahri Prep School for boys in Baquba. Teachers and students were among the victims.
An attack on the Salah ad Din police chief’s motorcade, which was in Shurqat, left one bodyguard dead and another wounded. The chief was not present.
Two people were wounded during a car bombing in Kirkuk. An assassination attempt on the al-Adala neighborhood police chief left no casualties, but a senior police official and two bodyguards were wounded in al-Wassiti. Also, the body of a woman bearing two gunshot wounds was found under a bridge.
Gunmen in Basra wounded three policemen.
In Mosul, the 17 Tammouz neighborhood was closed off for security purposes. Police also killed a gunman in a western industrial area.
Two teachers were abducted near Tuz Khormatu.
A child was killed in al-Magar al-Kabier, near Amara. A missile exploded as he was dismantling it in order to sell parts at a nearby market.
No casualties were reported during a Katyusha rocket attack on the British Base in Basra.
U.S. forces arrested 19 forces in central and northern Iraq. Eleven members of the Ahmed al-Yamani sect were arrested in Basra. Four suspects were arrested in Diyala province as well. In Muqdadiya, 15 gunmen were killed and 20 more were arrested.
Also, the Iraqi Parliament voted to modify the country’s flag slightly. Three stars symbolizing the ousted Baath Party regime lead by Saddam Hussein will be removed.
