A U.K. helicopter crashed near Salman Pak, killing two British soldiers and injuring 2 more. At least 71 Iraqis were killed and 33 more were also wounded in the latest violence. Also, the finance ministry announced that Iraq will give Syria $15 million to defray the costs of hosting Iraqi refugees who fled there to escape violence at home.
In Baghdad, six bodies were found dumped in different neighborhoods. A car bomb killed two people and wounded 11 in Bayaa, which saw an attack yesterday. In Baladiyat, also the scene of an attack yesterday, a roadside bomb wounded three people; another bomb wounded another three people later. Gunmen killed two men in Mansour. No casualties were reported after rockets hit the Green Zone. Also, gunmen killed the head of Iraq’s geological department as he was driving on Hifa Street; another man was killed and two more were wounded as well.
The bodies of four Iraqi soldiers were brought in to the hospital at Samarra. They had been tortured and shot in the head. Also, the body of a police major was found a day after he was abducted.
Gunbattles took place in Haditha. Three al-Qaeda fighters and a policeman were killed, while five fighters were arrested.
Four bodies were recovered from the Tigris in Suwayra.
In Dhuluiya, three bodies were discovered. They were bound and shot.
Two shackled bodies were found during operations in the Tigris River Valley. Twelve gunmen were also killed and five others arrested.
A car bomb at an outdoor market in Amiriyat al-Falluja left one dead and five injured.
In Mosul, a bomb failed to cause casualties but damaged nearby buildings.
The remains of five people were discovered at a suspected execution site in the Diyala River Valley.
A weapons cache was found in Iskandariya.
Near Najaf, a mass grave containing 13 bodies was found. The grave is believed to date from a 1991 uprising.
An IED near al-Safra killed one Iraqi army soldier and wounded five others.
Four bodies were found in Basra.
Three brothers were killed and their sister was wounded during an armed attack on a home south of Baquba in Zighania.
In Othmaniyah, Iraqi forces killed three gunmen.
An 18-year-old woman was shot to death in an armed attack at her home in Diyala province.
Near Kirkuk, an IED killed one Iraqi soldier and three others were wounded.
Iraqi soldiers killed two suspects and arrested 154 in different locations. Six suspects were killed in Mosul. In Karbala, 22 suspects were detained, while 16 were arrested near Tikrit. Also, an Islamic State in Iraqi leader was captured in Baiji. Later, two more suspects were killed in Mosul and two others were arrested.
