Reports have once again surfaced concerning U.S. troops firing upon Iraqi civilians. This time, a controversial event happened near the capital of the Muthanna province. Overall, 33 Iraqis were killed or found dead and 61 were wounded throughout the country. Four U.S. soldiers were killed as well.
Three U.S. soldiers were killed during a suicide vest attack in Baquba that also left three people dead and seven others injured, mostly children, near a football field. Also, a soldier died in a non-combat accident on Friday.
The governor of Muthanna province reported that U.S. troops fired upon civilians in al-Rumeitha. Six people were wounded, including policemen. Witnesses said that the attack was unjustified.
In Baghdad, four dumped bodies were found. Ten people were killed and 21 more were wounded in the Karrada district when a bomb targeting a finance ministry advisor was detonated. A bomb wounded three civilians at a petrol station in Adhamiya. In Amin, a roadside bomb injured two people. Three people were wounded during a roadside bombing in the Kasra neighborhood. Mortars in Adhamiya injured no one. Mortars also failed to cause casualties in Rustumiya.
Also in the capital, a U.S. helicopter dropped a bomb on a truck carrying a rocket launcher in the Obeidi neighborhood, shortly after a U.S. outpost in Shaab reported coming under mortar fire. No casualties were reported after a roadside bomb blasted an American patrol.
In Mosul, three people were killed and 16 others were wounded when a car bomb was detonated as a police patrol passed by it. Also, five dumped bodies were discovered; one belonged to a police captain.
In Tikrit, a bomb killed a policeman and a soldier while injuring a third person as they were trying to defuse it.
Iin Baquba, two more civilians were injured during an IED attack in a northern neighborhood.
Two brothers were kidnapped from their home in Riyadh.
South of the capital, U.S. helicopters killed two men suspected of planting a roadside bomb.
An IED in Basra’s al-Zubair neighborhood targeted a British patrol but left no casualties. A policeman was injured during an attack on a training center.
The Iraqi army killed four suspects and arrested 63 others in different locations. Six gunmen were arrested and a large cache of weapons was confiscated in Anbar province. Also, a Mahdi army leader was detained in Baquba. Eight suspects were captured in Baghdad. Also, 47 were arrested in Diwaniya.
