Sunday: 9 Iraqis Killed, 43 Wounded
At least nine Iraqis were killed and 43 were wounded in the latest attacks. Meanwhile, U.S. House Speaker John Boehner met with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki during a surprise visit to Baghdad. Also, with a U.S. military withdrawal looming, remaining U.S. diplomats are wondering about their future safety.
Monday: 11 Iraqis, 1 US Soldier Killed; 15 Iraqis Wounded
On the eve of World Water Day, UNICEF reported that Iraq loses about half its water to seepage, leakage, and wastage. Not only is there an obvious human cost to the loss, but the lack of an adequate water supply increases tensions with neighboring countries. Meanwhile, at least 11 Iraqis were killed and 15 others were wounded in violence across the country. A roadside bomb attack also left one American soldier dead in southern Iraq.
Sunday: 20 Iraqis Killed, 42 Wounded

At least 20 Iraqis were killed and 42 more were wounded in the latest attacks. The worst attack, which took place in Basra province, may have been targeting U.S. soldiers. Harassment of demonstrators also continued in Iraqi Kurdistan. Also, tomorrow marks the one-year anniversary of national elections, but much work remains to be done in the new government.
Thursday: 11 Iraqis Killed, 31 Wounded
At least 11 Iraqis were killed and 31 more were wounded in newly reported violence. Only one of a small number of attacks was significant, and it was the cause of most of today’s casualties.

Saturday: 5 Iraqis Killed, 18 Wounded
At least five Iraqis were killed and 14 more were wounded in the latest violence. Demonstrations continue in Baghdad, Basra, and other locations, but today’s hotspot is again Suleimaniya, where demonstrations turned deadly on Thursday. Turmoil throughout the Arab region could halt plans for an Arab League summit scheduled for March. Iraq is looking forward to hosting the summit as evidence of improving conditions there.

Thursday: 21 Iraqis, 1 US Soldier Killed; 100 Iraqis, 10 Iranians Wounded

Protests took place throughout the country again, while a major bombing took place in Muqdadiya. At least 21 Iraqis were killed in the new violence and protests. Another 100 Iraqis and 10 Iranians were wounded. One U.S. soldier also died, two days ago in a non-combat incident in Baghdad province.
Thursday: 8 Iraqis Killed, 38 Wounded
The U.S. military has released an Iraqi casualty tally that likely lead to more acrimonious debate over the true extent of deaths the country has suffered. Meanwhile, at least eight Iraqis were killed and 24 more were wounded in today’s violence.
