We need more help badly! My recent appeal to you has met with some support and we truly thank those who responded but quite honestly its not enough! And unless we can quickly raise some more money we may need to do the unthinkable: radically cut back Antiwar.coms operations.
And now with the War Party raging would be the worst time for this to happen. For starters, we might need to cut my column back from three times a week to just once! We might need to abandon our burgeoning campus outreach program, which has generated so much interest that our small staff can hardly keep up with it! (Im scheduled to go speak at five universities and a major policy conference in Washington starting next week and were hoping this will snowball.) And kind of a victim of our own success, we might not be able to afford the site enhancements weve scheduled to begin rolling out over the next two months (our new "email an article" feature is one such item). And, very sadly indeed, we might need to cut back other columnists we feel our original material from India, Israel, the Balkans, East Asia, and elsewhere gives us and you an edge we would hate to lose! All this when the War Party is driving our web traffic through the roof. This past weekend was our biggest in the history of the website.
So, is this the moment to retreat and let the War Party roll over us? Im sure you agree with me on this: of course not! The War Party has millions to throw around. A relentless stream of war propaganda is being broadcast across the country on a daily basis by this administration and its amen corner in the media. But we have succeeded in countering it, to a large extent, on a much much smaller budget. We dont have any frills around the Antiwar.com office, and we work, on a lean budget, pretty much around the clock. All we ask is for enough to be able to keep working.
Please contribute.
I know youre busy. I know this has been a tough year and I think the Fall has been dismal, too. But if all you contribute even a little, Antiwar.com can keep doing the work you value so much. Otherwise, without your vital help, as of November 1, we will have to cut our staff down from three to one and a half and I get to be the half!
This is a critical moment. Opposition to the war is mounting, but so is the pressure to start the shooting. If Antiwar.com goes down, a casualty of the war hysteria, then youll just have to depend on the "mainstream" media to report the truth about this war and if that doesnt convince you to send us some cash a.s.a.p., then nothing will.
Last May we raised some $25,000 the basic minimum necessary to survive for five months. Were not even halfway to that point yet. We can put off paying our bills, but only for so long. Creditors will soon come knocking on our door. So were knocking on yours.
Remember, unless we reach our goal, the cutbacks will start pretty soon and youll notice it. Less updating, less original material, and a general slowdown. But it doesnt have to be that way. Your contribution can make a difference so send it today. Believe me, it will be appreciated — more than mere words can convey.
