Bombers took over Baghdad again, where a string of bombs unnerved both Sunni and Shi’ite residents who had ventured out between rainstorms that have flooded some parts of the city this week. The rains, which are common this time of year, have been deadly in parts of central and southern Iraq. In attacks, though, at least 66 were killed and 142 more were wounded in Baghdad and across the country.
In Baghdad, a bomb killed seven people and wounded 19 more who were preparing food as part of a religious observance in Karrada. In Bayaa, a bomb killed five people and wounded 10 more at a hookah bar, while a separate blast killed 15 and wounded 22 at an internet cafe. Five people were killed and 13 more were wounded in a blast at a bakery. A car bomb near a bakery in Adhamiya left three dead and another eight wounded. In Sadriya, a bomb killed three people and wounded 14 more. Four people were killed and 12 more were wounded in a bombing in Amil. On a school street in Hurriya, a bomb left four dead and nine wounded. In Shabb, four people were killed and 11 more were wounded in a blast. In Tobchi, a bomb killed three people and wounded nine more; an earlier bomb killed two people and wounded six more. Also, a Sunni cleric was shot to death in Ghazaliya.
Three dumped bodies were discovered near Baquba.
One person was killed and five more were wounded in a bomb blast in Abu Ghraib.
In Buhriz, a sticky bomb killed a civilian and wounded two more.
A roadside bomb in Haswa killed a policeman and wounded two more.
Gunmen killed an army officer in Shura.
In Mosul, gunmen killed an army postman.
A soldier was killed near his home in Qayara.
Gunmen in Suleimaniya killed the chief bodyguard working for President Jalal Talabani.
A car bomb also exploded in Najaf, but the casualty figures were not available.
