A number of suicide car bombers and other gunmen took their toll across the country today. At least 47 people were killed and 97 more were wounded.
In Rutba, a suicide car bomber attacked a checkpoint, where he killed 10 policemen and wounded six more, including civilians. Afterwards, four more policemen were killed and nine were wounded during attacks at three other checkpoints. At least seven people were killed in attacks along a highway in Anbar province that leads to Jordan and Syria. At least 43 more security personnel were wounded in several locations.
Four people were killed in Jurf al-Sakhar when a suicide truck bomber attacked a checkpoint; at least one person was wounded. Mortars killed a young girl and wounded five adults, three of them women. Two policemen were killed and three more were wounded in another attack on a checkpoint.
