Suicide Bombers, Gunmen Leave 47 Dead, 97 Wounded Across Iraq

A number of suicide car bombers and other gunmen took their toll across the country today. At least 47 people were killed and 97 more were wounded.

In Rutba, a suicide car bomber attacked a checkpoint, where he killed 10 policemen and wounded six more, including civilians. Afterwards, four more policemen were killed and nine were wounded during attacks at three other checkpoints. At least seven people were killed in attacks along a highway in Anbar province that leads to Jordan and Syria. At least 43 more security personnel were wounded in several locations.

Four people were killed in Jurf al-Sakhar when a suicide truck bomber attacked a checkpoint; at least one person was wounded. Mortars killed a young girl and wounded five adults, three of them women. Two policemen were killed and three more were wounded in another attack on a checkpoint.

A car bomb killed one person and wounded 11 more at a market in Mussayab.

In Mosul, a suicide bomber killed two people and wounded another. Gunmen killed a power generator operator and wounded his brother.

Three dumped bodies were discovered, handcuffed and shot, in Sadr City.

Three people were killed and four more were wounded in Hit when mortars targeting an army base instead struck a home.

In Kifl, a dumped body bearing gunshot wounds was discovered.

In Baghdad, a bomb killed a Sahwa member was killed and wounded three more in Hor Rijab. Seven people were wounded in a Jihad bombing.

Gunmen killed a civilian in Shifta.

A bomb in Mandali wounded two people.

A bomb on a road in Qayara killed three policemen and wounded another.
