Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki stopped all property transfers between the Shi’ite and Sunni Endowment offices and ordered that all religious and cultural sites remain within their current administrations. A deadly bombing at a Shi’ite Endowment office in Baghdad on Monday may have been triggered by such transfers. At the very least, the Shi’ite Endowment had received death threats after earlier claiming a right to manage the al-Askari mosque in Samarra. A bomb was also found at a Sunni Endowment office on Monday but it was defused before it could do damaged.
