In Mosul, police defused a bomb attached to a judge’s car. Gunmen killed a soldier and wounded a child during an attack on a checkpoint. Northwest of the city, gunmen killed the son of a civilian contractor. Separately, 18 suspects were arrested.
Police in Kirkuk found the body of a Christian man who was being held for ransom. The body bore signs of torture.
Two people were killed in a blast at a Fadhila Party H.Q. in Hilla.
A U.S. patrol in Kut was targeted by a blast but no casualties were reported.
