Monday: 8 Iraqis Killed; 17 Iraqis, 3 Norwegians Wounded

At least eight Iraqis were killed and 17 more were wounded in new violence. Three Norwegians were wounded as well, while on their way to a consulting job with the water resources ministry.

In Baghdad, a roadside bomb targeting a convoy carrying Norwegian consultants exploded, wounding three of them; one Iraqi guard was killed and two more were wounded in the attack as well. Four people were wounded in a blast in Wathiq Square.  A drive-by shooting in Allawi left one policeman dead. Last night in Saidiya, a bomb killed an employee of the Interior Ministry. Gunmen in Hurriya wounded a civilian.

A roadside bomb, this one apparently targeting the chairman of the provincial council, wounded nine bystanders in Sadr City.

In Mosul, police defused a bomb attached to a judge’s car. Gunmen killed a soldier and wounded a child during an attack on a checkpoint. Northwest of the city, gunmen killed the son of a civilian contractor. Separately, 18 suspects were arrested.

Police in Kirkuk found the body of a Christian man who was being held for ransom. The body bore signs of torture.

Two people were killed in a blast at a Fadhila Party H.Q. in Hilla.

A U.S. patrol in Kut was targeted by a blast but no casualties were reported.

A 13- or 14-year-old boy was arrested or planting a sticky bomb in Baquba.
