Meanwhile, Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr issued a statement asking Iraqis to support security forces who do not work alongside the American troops remaining in Iraq.
In Baghdad, a blast at a Tarmiyah checkpoint wounded seven people, including civilians, police and Sahwa fighters. A bomb attached to a car wounded an army officer and killed his brother. Three Iraqi soldiers were wounded in Ameriya during an explosion.
In Mosul, a bomb targeting a police patrol killed two policemen and wounded four more. A blast near a mosque killed a policeman. An imam was shot and killed outside his mosque. An explosion killed one soldier and wounded another.
