Friday: 7 Iraqis Killed, 18 Wounded

At least seven Iraqis were killed and 18 more were wounded in light violence. Meanwhile, two prominent Iraqis used the prayer day to speak out: At a sermon in Karbala, Sheikh Abdul-Mahdi al-Karbalaei asked Iraqi officials to end the deadlock preventing the new government. Meanwhile, Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr issued a statement asking Iraqis to support security forces who do not work alongside the American troops remaining in Iraq.

In Baghdad, a blast at a Tarmiyah checkpoint wounded seven people, including civilians, police and Sahwa fighters. A bomb attached to a car wounded an army officer and killed his brother. Three Iraqi soldiers were wounded in Ameriya during an explosion.

In Mosul, a bomb targeting a police patrol killed two policemen and wounded four more. A blast near a mosque killed a policeman. An imam was shot and killed outside his mosque. An explosion killed one soldier and wounded another.

A blast in Abu Ghraib wounded two soldiers.

An Awakening Council member was shot dead in Kirkuk.

About sixty suspects were arrested in a joint U.S.-Iraqi raid in Hawija.

Four suspects were arrested at a bomb factory near Kut.

In Basra, three men were arrested for impersonating ministerial officials.
